A Month in the life of George W. Bush (News and many Photos) September 2005
georgewbush-whitehouse.archives.gov/news ^ | September 5, 2010

Posted on 09/05/2010 5:29:14 PM PDT by Kaslin

The month of September 2005 was a very busy month for President Bush after Katrina came on land at the Gulf coast and damaged the area. We see President Bush and First Lady Laura visiting New Orleans and other affected areas in Louisiana and Mississippi to comfort the victims of the hurricane and bring aid
The country lost Chief Justice William Renquist who passed away on September 3, 2005
President Bush nominated Judge Roberts to become the next Chief Supreme Court Justice. On September 29th Justice Roberts was sworn in as the 20th? Supreme Court Chief Justice.
President Bush remembered 9/11 heroes at a Medal of Valor ceremony. He also met with several foreign leaders and addressed the Useless Nations
For the quote of the month I have chosen President Bush’s Remarks which he gave at the National Day of Prayer and Remembrance Service on September 16, 2005

Hi Deb, thank you for the ping. What perplexes me most is how many so-professed “real” conservatives insist President Bush was not a conservative when, in fact, he was the most conservative president in modern times. Yes, even moreso in some respects than President Reagan. I’ll never forget how many on the Right turned on him just as viciously as most on the Left.

This one photo of Laura touching him with her pinky made all the trolling the net for GWB and Laura updates worthwhile. Thank you sooooooo much for posting it. It truly made my day.

Cheney looked so frail. I know that month-long stay in the hospital really took a toll on him.

Did you hear the obvious emotion in Condi’s voice when she spoke? You could practically hear her heart racing and for such a well-spoken, intelligent woman that’s saying something.

It is the sweetest photo, isn't it? It speaks volumes.

I am sad to say that I wasn't able to listen to or watch the ceremony. I need to look up Condi's comments. I respect her so very much and would love to read what she said. I know that both Bushes love her like family---and I am so glad for that since she is so alone!

Here is a blog post about the photo taken showing Laura sweetly touching her husband’s hand as Cheney described 9/11.

Power of the Pinkie

Sometimes the subtlest aspects of an image speak the loudest. Yesterday, when photographing the groundbreaking of the George W. Bush Presidential Center, I literally breathed the words, "Oh my god," as I snapped the above frame. I couldn't believe how incredibly tiny and yet powerful was former First Lady Laura Bush's small movement to touch her husband's hand as former Vice President Dick Cheney spoke of George Bush's immediate response to the events of 9-11.

What I found most rewarding was hearing from readers today who saw the image and were themselves touched. Politics aside, the shared moment speaks of a humanity to which people can relate.

Betty M. of Richmond, Texas, wrote: "As for me.........I think this picture is fantastic.........I asked my husband if he wanted to see "us".........and showed him the picture...........it showed both my husband and me.........a loving, caring marriage partnership (I recognize is as our own)..........where each person "feels" the others every feeling, thought, etc., and communicates in silent ways their loving connection........where their comfort of one another is shown in private, special ways........such as Laura Bush touching her husband's hand with her little finger, in a private, loving gesture of comfort and understanding and love."

Diana C. wrote: "The picture published in today's paper taken at Bush groundbreaking ceremony took my breath away. Laura Bush reaching out and just barely touching his hand spoke volumes about their marriage. My husband and I are avid newspaper readers and can not start our day without reading a newspaper no matter where we are. I saw it first and it brought tears to my eyes. I waited to see if he noticed and he just stared at the picture for the longest time and had the same reaction.

I will cut it out and save as a reminder to me of how powerful a touch can be."

Thanks to those who took the time to share their appreciation of a photograph. As editor and friend Guy Reynolds says, the response of a viewer means more than any award ever could.

Holy Moly........those people are channeling US........"took my breath away"........YES!!

Thank you SO much, dmd25 for coming up with this article and giving us the background of what was being said. I knew Laura was comforting her beloved, but I didn't know why.

God BLESS these two dear people! How blessed they are to have each other, and how blessed we were to have them!

Is anyone else getting multiple sounds in the webcast? I’m hearing the President three times in a row! Strange!

So glad you all enjoyed that amazing photo and accompanying info. I love it that the photographer realized what a capture she made!

They are blessed indeed--and so are we, ohioWfan, for sure.

I was getting a lot of feedback too; fortunately, it stopped after a minute or so.

Per usual, the President did an AWESOME job with the Q & A — love the “God is good // All the time” anecdote!
