I don’t know, do other FReepers think I am crazy?
A father puts his kids to bed, closes the door and falls asleep. The kids get out of the house (I did this as a child myself) and the father gets arrested on a 10K bond, even though he doesn’t seem to have any kind of a record.
Now granted it would have been a tragedy if something had happened, and we may not know the full story, but kids do sometimes escape.
So these girls climbed out of cribs, opened a door, took down a gate and opened another door. Either Dad’s lying or these parents are in for it!
Under Obammunism, any accidents your child get into while you are asleep are a pretext to charge you with neglect.
There is no room for the actual concept of “Accident”.
There are a fair number of freepers who embrace this view.
Got out of a crib
Opened the bedroom door
Went down the stairs
Opened the door of the house
Opened the gate
Went to the pond.
Exactly how much was the father supposed to do to prevent this? Tie the kid to the crib? You get in trouble for that. How about lock the kid's bedroom door from the outside? Well, you get in trouble for that too.
Meanwhile, a witness actually saw the kid neck deep in the pond -- and merely called 911. The witness knowingly left the kid in danger and waited for a professional rescue team to show up. I call that negligence.
But, hey, they decided to charge Dad for taking a nap.
You know, bad things happen -- or almost happen. We cannot arrest someone every time an unfortunate event nearly occurs.
Sorry, I don’t agree with filing charges against this guy. Sometimes little kids do crazy things. Yes, you should be vigilant, and should take reasonable precautions, but you can’t spend every minute of the day and night hovering over them on the chance that they might suddenly figure out how to operate something as complex as a doorknob. Sounds like this one was a real escape artist, managing at least two closed doors, plus a toddler gate. If I were the guy, I’d go before a judge, tell him that this is the first time something like this has happened, and that given the kid’s ability there would be new deadbolts at the top of my exterior doors once I got home. Parents should be responsible, but there are some things that just can’t be easily anticipated.
Where to begin. One-year-olds can remove gate, get downstairs and out the door to the pond...? Neighbor hears a kid not even crying, but calls the police anyway? Without even looking to see if there’s a reason? Because if s/he’d looked s/he’d have taken the child out of the water, no? “Firefighters pulled the girl from the pond?” How many did it take?
Good dog! Bad journalist!
I’m failing to see the crime here. Unless the father was sleeping one off, and the paper would be quick to point it out if he was, there is no crime, that I can see.
Meanwhile Mothers kill their children and the media rushes to their defense, to the point of creating new psychotic episodes that excuse them from their behavior.
Not Guilty.
The father is acquitted because he took the reasonable precaution of buying a good dog!
Seriously, from the news story there is no evidence a crime was committed.
Just more bad police work.
I was working 2nd into 3rd shift when my twinnies were small, and I'd put in a video, tell them my feet were cold and they had to sit on them to keep them warm and then fall dead asleep for a while.
Lucky for me they listened, stayed sitting on my feet and woke me up when their tape was over.
Far from criminal - it's called survival
Dogs are wonderful. There are 100 of them from LA shelters on their way right now to the PNW to find new homes.
... playful voice and calls police. yeah, makes sense to me. It smells!
Guy should be at home with the kids and mom. Better yet, he should be at work with her at home with the twins!!!! (armor on!)
Our daughter, on the other hand, was just the opposite. She would push a chair up to the door lock and open it. We added another lock waaaaay up at the top of the door, out of reach. We even nicknamed her "Trouble".
They grew up and changed roles...he, the rule breaker (:D) and she, the one who didn't want to get in trouble at all....ever!

First off, this was a poorly written story. Lacks quite a bit of info. Second, as the grandmother of twin boys.....well, I can understand this happening. When my grandsons were just 3, their dad was out front cutting grass....the boys were playing in a completely fenced in back yard [6 foot high fence]. When my son went out back to check on the twins, he was in for the surprise of his life! They recently had a small deck taken down...and a new much larger one put up.....with the twins watching the workers in awe. In a matter of 15 minutes [the amount of time my son said he left them alone in the back yard], the twins found a crowbar and hammer and proceeded to take off every single balister on the new deck. As my son rounded the corner, they proudly exclaimed...”Look daddy, we helped you”! lol I wished I could have seen the look on my sons face. Also at 3 yrs old, with 3 adults sitting on my deck, one of our twins managed to sneak off into our big barn......back the golf cart out and proceed to “drive” past us as we wondered....where is scott? It happened in seconds...he was here one second and gone the next. The child couldn’t even reach the pedals yet he did drive that golf cart. His mom ran him down and was able to stop him. I thank God he missed every tree and the fence....and had enough sense to not drive into the road! Twins.......they are very much a handful, so I can almost beleive this was an accident and not neglect.
The neighbor called police? S/he didn't go rescue the little girl, but called police, who then took an unknown amount of time to get there?
What a neighbor, folks.
