Delaware Republicans Attack Tea Party Senate Candidate As Unelectable ‘Liar’

Washington (AP) - Delaware Republicans call Senate hopeful Christine O'Donnell a liar who "could not be elected dog catcher" in a fierce attack that underscores GOP fears of the tea party-backed candidate knocking off top recruit Rep. Mike Castle and winning the nomination.

Stunned by tea partier Joe Miller's upset of Alaska Sen. Lisa Murkowski, Republicans are taking no chances in Delaware, which holds its primary Sept. 14. The party sees Castle, the state's lone congressman since 1993, as the best candidate for the seat long held by Vice President Joe Biden.

Republicans circulated audio of a testy, 22-minute interview that O'Donnell had with radio station WGMD on Thursday. Party officials also have said she inflated her resume and made flat-out untrue statements while being dogged by questions about tax liens and foreclosures. Castle says she has misrepresented his record.

"She's not a viable candidate for any office in the state of Delaware," state Republicann Party Chairman Tom Ross, who is backing Castle, said in a telephone interview. "She could not be elected dog catcher."

Castle's campaign began running radio ads on Thursday and prepared negative television ads against O'Donnell. The radio ads cite a News Journal of Wilmington, Del., report on O'Donnell's finances and declares her "a financial nightmare."

"According to the News Journal, O'Donnell has become a professional candidate, living off contributions from her two failed campaigns," ...

hmmmm let’s see, so when someone makes an uninformed statement like “ She’s Nuts” that is not to offend? I may have been wrong.... feel free to be fully offended and to take my statement personally.

Ask "Brady Bill" Bob Dole and Mr. "Read my Lips" how far being a RINO can get you.

We are done with equivocators and milquetoast mushy-headed middle of the roader's like you.

We may need your vote, we don't need your willingness to concede defeat on core issues before the battle has even begun.

You don't like voting for conservatives? Fine. Vote Democrat. See where that gets you...

Your post made me very angry because there was almost NO truth to what you say. The one thing you said that was true is that you need my vote. That is absolutely true. The further truth is that all need each others' votes. It will take ALL of us hanging together to get rid of this plague called liberalism.

If you really believe I like voting for RINOs, I'm going to believe you like voting for Democrats because that is exactly what your method will do if we refuse to support any RINO in a general election.

What is your vision for advancing a conservative agenda? I have one, do you?

You are making excuses for voting for RINO's. Even though this is a thoroughly repudiated strategy and has done nothing but allowed the Dems to take over.

What other conclusion was there to draw?

If that makes you mad... Tough cookies.

Support conservative candidates or get the hell out of the way.

It would be so nice to be able to have a civil discussion without being called names and without deliberate distortions regarding my comments.

Am I going to make an excuse for voting for a RINO? In certain instances, yes, by all means. In no way am I advocating that I want mushy moderates to dominate our party. For you to infer I am a mushy moderate is a lie. I am anything but a mushy moderate.

I am talking strictly about a method to advance a conservative agenda and in the process we are going to HAVE to have some RINOS. It is the only way to ever attain a majority.

If you have been brainwashed that it is to our advantage to allow Democrats to attain an office as a way of advancing our desired agenda, I strongly disagree.

If you believe that is the case, show me how that will work. Are you advocating to NEVER vote for someone you do not believe is 100% to your liking? Another problem is that there is NO consensus on what, or who, is a RINO.

I have said before and I'll say it again, by all means vote for the most conservative candidate you can get in a primary. After that, vote straight Republican. That way we advance our agenda. To do any other way is retreat.

“The truth is the ‘Maine Twin RINOS’ do have some value. We need them to make a majority.”

Accept is has happened time and time again that when we really needed them, RINO’s vote with the Dems. McCain-Feingold ring a bell? How about ending the fillibuster on Healthcare? RINO’s came to the Democrats aid.

Re: Rino’s...

“Totally ridiculous statement and untrue. “

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/2583516/posts?page=86#86

“How will we ever achieve victory if we all sit back and wait for the perfect people to come along.”

Like “Brady Bill” Bob Dole or John McCain? How’d that work out for us?

You keep calling me a “liar”, but the above quotes are YOURS from just this one thread.

The truth is you have no plan and you’re not willing to listen to a rational one.

Was McCain a "rational" choice? Is letting Huckster and Willard continue to be "contenders" for 2012 a "rational" choice? Is supporting someone you KNOW will stab you in the back a "rational" choice?

The Tea Party is a good start. Shifting the GOP onto their track is happening, even though RINO's are kicking and screaming every inch of the way. Dirty tricks from the GOP, like in the lead-in article, are to be expected.

We've tried your kind of "strategery" before. It doesn't work.

Here's an idea, instead of allowing the Dems or the GOP insiders dictate our candidates for us... Why don't we vote in real conservatives? Even if they don't win the GOP nomination? How many times have we seen cross-over votes sink a better candidate? How many times have we seen GOP Party insiders torpedo the more conservative candidate in a given race to protect a McCain-type knowing full well that there are those like you who will vote for the guy with an "R" next to his name whether he's conservative or not.

What is not "rational" is following your suggestion. If we always do what we've always done, we will always get what we have always gotten.

No more Doles. No more McCains. No more Snowes. No more Romneys.

They are not the answer and they never will be.

Would you vote for a Democrat rather than Snowe or Collins?

You are absolutely wrong in your conclusion that we always lose with moderates. I am not making a case for moderates; I am making a case to vote a straight Republican ticket.

If you think I do not know what I'm talking about study Ronald Reagan's strategy to become president. I recall his son, Michael, telling that his dad understood the only way for Reagan to prevail in his quest to become president was to enlist the support of the "moderates". Reagan went to the moderates--first, to get them on board. We know the rest of the story. He got the big picture and we will not advance our strategy looking through the wrong end of the telescope.

The truth is we need every vote.

FWIW, I live in Iowa and I can tell you that many of the Iowa conservatives believe that to not support Huckabee is anti-Christian. They believe everyone else is a RINO compared to Huckabee. See what we are up against. We're a team. Fight it out in the primaries and then vote straight Republican after that. Our goal is to defeat Democrats--not each other.

Ignorance of reality is no excuse. Even if we win the seat, we can't count on the votes. As with Snowe and McCain. "Maverick" my left eye. They are TURNCOATS who have no principles.

Reagan won the moderates not by moving to the Center, as you are advocating, but by moving the Center. Which is what the Tea Party is doing.

Please try to understand what I am saying. I have NEVER advocated moving to the center. Stop trying to twist what I am saying. I couldn't agree more that Reagan got the center to move and that is the way to do it but I am pointing out that Reagan used moderates to get what he wanted. That is a successful strategy and we need every vote we can get. If we have to use some moderates to advance our agenda, we take it.

I am trying to avoid moving to the center. Your way will erase conservative gains. When we surrender to Democrats, we lose--big!!!

Your way will erase conservative gains.

What gains has your method produced? The Dems are now in control after 8 years of "middle of the road" Republicanism.

Only now, with the Tea Party pushing real candidates instead of establishment stooges are we picking up momentum.
