Nonfarm payroll employment changed little (-54,000) in August, and the unemployment rate was about unchanged at 9.6 percent, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported today. Government employment fell, as 114,000 temporary workers hired for the decennial census completed their work. Private-sector payroll employment continued to trend up modestly (+67,000).
Household Survey Data
The number of unemployed persons (14.9 million) and the unemployment rate (9.6 percent) were little changed in August. From May through August, the jobless rate remained in the range of 9.5 to 9.7 percent. (See table A-1.)
Among the major worker groups, the unemployment rate for adult men (9.8 percent), adult women (8.0 percent), teenagers (26.3 percent), whites (8.7 percent), blacks (16.3 percent), and Hispanics (12.0 percent) showed little change in August. The jobless rate for Asians was 7.2 percent, not seasonally adjusted. (See tables A-1, A-2, and A-3.)

U6 - real unemployment - increased from 16.5% to 16.7% which is the highest since April. Of course, this was UNEXPECTED!
Why would FR put a “gov’t” report and put the in breaking???
No real change???? UNEMPLOYMENT HAS GONE UP!!!
$787 Billion just doesn’t buy as much as it used to...
apparently unemployment will not officially reach 10% ....
until the GOP takes back the House and Senate
Count on an unexpectedly good report in the October report. And count on a major downward revision in November.
Ask the people who lost their jobs whether the change was "little". By my calculation, a net -54,000 jobs with private payrolls adding 67,000 means well over 100,000 people lost their jobs.
“about unchanged”????????
What a joke. I’ve heard the unemployment rate described as “unchanged” when it remains the same but I’ve never heard this type verbage. How many tenths does it have to jump to actually change?
LOL
Sad. Used to be that you could buy an entire election with $787 billion.
Can you imagine if they were honest about the numbers?
Recovery summer continues....
Lies, damn lies and statistics.
I have never seen so many people out of work, including myself.

Big government types like big government. They hate the private sector and the free market. But most of all they despise this country. Remember former auto czar, Bloom: 'The free market is a joke.'
BULLCRAP!
I don’t want our economy to fail as it hurts my family, friends and folks I don’t even know, but love.
I don’t trust them. I’d like to know the names of companies who actually hired FULL TIME WORKERS.
I was thinking something very similar to that. Even though I’d nearly bet my retirement that the actual unemployment rate is over 10%, the Federal bureaucracy and the Democratic propaganda machine known as the MSM will NEVER report it. It’s a psychological barrier that they know will REALLY hurt the Dems, even more than they already stand to be hurt in November.
Exactly, if they were honest the real number is over twice 9.6%.
until the GOP takes back the House and Senate
You got it!
“”Anyone else think these numbers don’t add up? And I don’t mean just this month’s.””
Yes - I’m with you. As I posted last month, figures don’t lie but liars sure figure. They settle on a % and then tinker with the numbers below and above and voila, it comes out exactly as they want it to.
Goodbye Summer of Recovery, hello Fall of the Democrat Party!
