The Dems are going to mount a counter attack. It will include a flood of negativity, but they will find something else - probably something big. I suspect that the “financial meltdown” two years ago helped increase the Dem margin in 2008. I also expect them to try to advertise the crisis of the month as a new danger that means we need to stick with socialism. My guess: it won’t work this time, not even with the complicity of most of the news media, but they’ll pour all their effort into it and hope (not pray, because they’re dems, just hope).
I think you have it exactly right: the Dems will go negative. It will be personal and candidate by candidate. It’s the only bullet they have left. They’ll overdo it. Desperate people almost always go too soft or too hard, rarely just right.

He said that he had the power to decide how much you can earn. He decided that your financial records and loan applications were his business. He decided to spend 700 billion in payoffs to unions and state governments and only 200 billion to fund jobs for you.”
