not sure why the media always thinks a contentionous primary on the right hurt the winner’s chances in November. Obama and Clinton had one of the most contentious primaries in history and one that got both sides very worked up. No one on the media left thought this would damage Obama’s chances in the fall.

We have a number of big primary battles this year and the GOP candidate is coming out with early poll leads almost every time. FL Gov race, AK Senate, Angle in NV all had a lead in the first poll post-primary, IIRC.

And before the field had skimmed off the biggest losers, Candidate Biden said of Obama, "The presidency is no place for on-the-job experience".
