God spoke to the Israelites through Balaam. Don’t dismiss it so quickly.

This isn’t an “either/or” question. Beck doesn’t intend it that way, and to read him that way is wrong.
To have gold, or silver, or supplies, or guns or other needs for survival and preparedness on hand for emergencies and disasters of short or even long duration is just plain, old-fashioned COMMON SENSE. My Dad was born during the Depression and raised with 7 brothers and sisters in a share croppers home. They LEARNED to prepare. They had to. My Grandparents and Great-Grandparents taught them — and I had the privilege of learning a few lessons from some of them as well.
HOWEVER, none of my family taught that our ultimate reliance was in gold, or silver, or guns or THINGS. Our ULTIMATE reliance was — IS — in GOD. We prayed to HIM, trusted in HIM, worked for HIM and hopefully rested in HIM. When all our PLANS and PREPARATIONS failed — GOD is STILL able. More than able.
That is why we go to God FIRST. That is why we rely on Him at the HEART of ALL we do. We prepare for all contingencies with all the resources we can — but we RELY upon GOD. He alone is worthy of that ultimate trust...
Since I don't smoke, storing tobacco for a long period just doesn't seem viable. Too bad, it's a Tier 1 barter item for sure.
Bourbon, OTOH I enjoy. And unopened it keeps forever. A couple of cases fit well in my garage (grin). Ditto for the TP. I have about 6 months supply in my attic & I just buy it as we use it. Although I don't think I'd trade it except under severe circumstances.
And God spoke to Balaam through his poor donkey whom he beat. And check your reading ... Balaam was instructing the enemy of Israel despite God’s warning Balaam about his treachery.
Balaam was spoken to by God and in Numbers 24 he blesses Israel. God used the voice of a pagan to bless his people is the point.
Didn't Catholics say the same of Protestants and burned quite a few of them at the stake for heresy over the course of centuries?
You got proof?
I haven't read that.
Unless you can quote your source or your proof, I don't believe you.
Look, ... I was seriously considering converting ALL my retirement funds into gold, and getting it out of the reach of the government.
But this Bible reading shows me that gold isn't the most important investment.
Yes it has value, but what good is it if the worst of the heathen, ... shall possess their houses and gold/silver will not be able to deliver them in the day of the wrath of the LORD ?
Tools to defend yourself and to survive the "wrath" might be a better investment.
You cannot barter or trust the evil ones that God is using to punish this nation, you can only "Stand in the Truth" and go where God leads us.
Can't you see, can't you understand?

FWIW, I believe that gold is mentioned over 400 times in the Bible.
