Thilo Sarrazin's comments about Muslims have triggered outrage in Germany and abroad, but have met with willing listeners among the general public. His rhetoric is slowly bringing about change in Germany, transforming it from a tolerant society into one dominated by fear and Islamophobia. ***more Socially Acceptable
The Turkish-German writer and sociologist Necla Kelek made a speech at the presentation of Sarrazin's book on Monday in which she defended his ideas. Kelek is a fan of Sarrazin and has won several awards in Germany, bestowed by people who -- like her -- see all the problems of the world as being caused by Islam.

To know Islam is to loath Islam. Therefore “Islamophobia” mans knows Islam and reacts normally to the threat of Islam.
The suffix “phobic” implies the fear is irrational. Uh uh.
Ask a German cop his opinion about Turks—and this goes WAY back—and you might not get an earful, but you will guess his opinion very quickly, and it is not favorable. Forty years ago, however, most Turks were just happy to be where they were, did not try to cause trouble and tried to teach their kids German. My guess is that is not longer the case. If the Jews had behaved this way, instead of trying to integrate into German society and having a hard time getting accepted for their efforts—a Hitler would have arise generations before.

Popular Internet sites like the German blog Politically Incorrect don’t even begin to take the trouble to draw the necessary distinctions. Some of the postings on the site are indicative of this tendency to paint with a very broad brush, postings like: “Islam is a voluntary mental illness,” “It is pointless to grapple with this inferior culture,” and “There is only one word to describe Islam: barbaric.” The anonymity of the Internet enables a boundless, blind hatred to cross the last thresholds of inhibition. Worshippers of the Prophet Mohammed are variously described as “goat fuckers” or “veiled sluts.” “Dirty Muslim!” and “God-damned camel driver” are among the most popular derogatory expressions among young people today.
The Prophet Mohammed has more than an image problem. According to an Emnid poll, a majority now finds him almost as distasteful as Pontius Pilate, the Roman prefect who authorized Jesus’s crucifixion. Some 52 percent of Germans would be opposed to one of their children marrying a Muslim or would only accept it with very strong reservations, while 46 percent would be against one of their children marrying a Buddhist and 30 percent a Jew.

I just want to add . . . no schtick sherlock.
I’m here in Germany right now. The problem with Herr Sarrazins’ arguement is that he’s essentially saying that Turks (and Arabs as well) are GENETICALLY inferior. In other words, he’s not making a cultural critique (which I can agree with, ie. that Islamic culture is generally backwards and has been since the Mongol conquest of the MidEast), but a biological arguement that by the virtue of genetics the Turks, Arabs, et al, are inferior in intellect, intiative, etc. Needless to say, that sounds to many German ears a little too close to the type of noxious propaganda spewed by a funny little Austrian man here in the 1920’s, 30’s, and 40’s. Seeing as how both Jewish and Arab folks are Semites, I personally find his arguement a little paradoxical......how is it that the Jews got all the good genes, the Arabs the bad? In any event, he’s certainly getting his 15 minutes of fame; he’s on the front page(s) of most of the dailies here in DLand, and his book is selling pretty well, from what I understand. A little publicity (or controversy) certainly never hurt.
I agree... but I’m not surprised a lefty would rely on genetic inferences. Although from radio I’ve been listening to, the outrage is more over his comments and less regarding the merits of the immigration integration problem.

I like the way Markomalley said it...Islamomisia, a revulsion of Islam.
