A former U.S. Customs employee is headed to federal prison for 20 years after being convicted of corruption and smuggling charges in El Paso, Texas. Martha Alicia Garnica, 43, a former Customs and Border Protection officer, conspired to smuggle marijuana and undocumented migrants into the United States and bribed or attempted to bribe fellow officers, the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency said in a statement.

They've made the background investigations and hiring process so streamlined for people who will work on the border and speak Spanish that almost anyone can get a job with CBP if they meet those qualifications.
CBP has a segment on their intra-web page called "Honor Betrayed" and at last check, 22 of the last 25 officers to be convicted of corruption were people with Latino names almost all on the Southern Border.
CBP's willingness to bend rules to hire people who can better accommodate mexicans looking to enter the U.S. is barely short of criminal. That's why many on the inside say CBP stands for "Customers Before Protection".
