The Ka’aba preceeded Islam. What its original meaning was I am not sure. In crazy mo’s time it was a place were no violence was tolerated and trade could take place without fear. Outside of its environs you were allowed to raid, steal and murder (you know arab family values). In the 10th century a group of Zoroastrians stole the thing. In their escape they damage it. After the thieves were caught and disposed a hellish time for Zoroastrians was had by all. This is the cause of the Zoroastrian dispora to India.
