OKLAHOMA CITY, Aug. 30 (UPI) -- The world hunger charity Feed the Children says it is investigating its founder, Larry Jones, on corruption allegations.
The organization is looking into whether Jones used a kickback to help pay off a $1 million construction loan on his new suburban Oklahoma City home, The Oklahoman reported.
Jones denied the accusation to the newspaper as "bogus." He said he and his wife, Frances, used personal funds to pay off the loan.
The charity's attorneys have subpoenaed records on the home's financing from banks, an abstract company and another company. Jones and his wife want a judge to quash the subpoenas.
The attorneys believe the payoff came from a source connected to a vendor, they wrote in explaining why they subpoenaed records.
Jones was the Oklahoma City-based charity's president. He was fired in November and is suing to get his job back. The charity is countersuing for monetary damages.
Oklahoma County District Judge Vicki Robertson scheduled a hearing for Sept. 9.
He should never have agreed to be photographed with Congressman Charlie Rangel.
God sees all this.
Our politicians likewise are corrupt and definitely feel entitled to huge salaries, and magnificent retirements for their self and their spouse, and take many gifts undercover ...and basically live like KINGS on our dime.
Is there no honesty anymore? Why is there not efficient and direct over site auditing these organizations and our government?
The lobbyist are effective for an important reason, man/woman yields to the right temptations.
God help us in our day, in Jesus name, amen.
A friend whose husband works for them told me several months ago that there was a major power play going on between the founder and his kids. Control of the organization has shifted back and forth several times.
If he’s innocent why is he trying to stop the subpoenas? Nothing to hide, then let ‘em look.
personally if I had been to some of the places in those ads and seen those children, I could not come back to the States and stand the thought of living in a $1 million home.
The only worthy causes are local ones where you can keep your eye on what is being done with your contributions.
