Not liars, per se. But often totally insensitive to the effects of their own behavior on others.

If people want to leave the church, they are free to leave. Are those who remain not allowed to disagree with or disapprove of that decision? If those who remain happen to love the person who left, are they not allowed to feel anguish over what they believe the person is losing?

And, if the person leaving begins attacking the sincerely held beliefs of those who remain, exactly what kind of reaction do you expect?

In my experience, if the person leaving displays a “live and let live attitude,” and respects the feelings and beliefs of those who remain, it is returned in kind.

My mother left. Nobody was mean to her. Until the day she died, they were kind to her. But, maybe that’s because she didn’t go around slamming their beliefs at every opportunity.

Well, in my family those who have left have not been treated kindly. Those who have remind have been advised to not have any contact with the family members who have left.
