“When this story first broke, a mormonite posted it, apparently to show how mormons were so very persecuted in every way and were victims.”
As the person who posted this thread, I did not post it because I feel like we are victims.
I posted it because it was newsworthy.
The shooter was taking psychiatric meds, and as with all of these types of crimes, whenever I hear about an inexplicable violent crime, I often wonder if it was Prozac or Zoloft that drove the perp to commit the crime.
The careful teachings of the Gospel of Jesus Christ do NOT lead to acts of violent retribution.
Taking mind bending drugs that were designed to cause addiction, violence, and insanity do.
I don’t shun anyone who has left the church for whatever reason.
But I am somewhat skittish about hanging with those who take psychiatric meds because of the known side effects of violence, including suicide and murder as has been so devastatingly portrayed in this tragic story.

In speaking of Outer Darkness, the original Mormon prophet Joseph Smith said This is the case with many apostates of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (quoted in Doctrine and Covenants Student Manual, p. 358).

Hey Sandy...
Joey Smith claimed to know who was going to Hell...
What do ya say to that ???
He was mean and hateful eh ???
and he wasnt God...
HOW DARE HE ...
He blasphemed the mormon holy ghost...
This is a time for healing. This is about a tragic situation where an innocent Bishop was murdered by a mentally ill anti Mormon. We need to pray for the widow, the children, the extended family, friends and the LDS family.
Lol...funny...not making an argument....that is called an “observation”...magritte
The killer was an anti Mormon

Actually the murderer was a mormon ...
the murdered man was a mormon also...
Jenny,
You were not the first to post the article. I did not mean you. It is a terrible tragedy that this man’s life was ruined by his mental illness - especially after serving our country. It is a double tragedy that he harbored bad feelings to his old ward that ended in the death of an innocent man. Sin is like this - permeating the world and life.
I object strenuously to those who have attempted to portray this as “mormon hate” and tie it to people on FR by innuendo. That sounds like the kind of message that comes out of the Obama Whitehouse. It is a tragedy. Period. It happens. This time it involved a mormon ward.
best,
ampu
Joseph Smith was a Prophet of God. He is revered by members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, including me.
You are not a Prophet.
I would never be so presumptuous as to believe for one nano second that I know who is going to hell . . . but apparently, you know that I am going to hell because I am a Mormon. Good luck with that.
Well, now you know what we are up against on this site. Welcome to our world. CTR.
“This is a time for healing. This is about a tragic situation where an innocent Bishop was murdered by a mentally ill anti Mormon. We need to pray for the widow, the children, the extended family, friends and the LDS family.”
You should also pray for the family of the mentally ill, former mormon. They too are experiencing a tragedy...
“You should also pray for the family of the mentally ill, former mormon. “
Of course; that goes without saying.
Why are you doing this? The murderer was an ex Mormon; he demanded that his name be removed from the roles. He was an active anti Mormon who was mentally ill.
You need to read today’s Fresno Bee:

going around the ward to people whom she considered vulnerable, trying to talk them into leaving the church, too. She couldnt just leave. She had to try to convince as many people as possible that she was right, and they were stupid to stay.

If I hated Mormons, I would leave them to their fate, as well as those gullible enough to be dragged into their web of lies and deceit.
There is nothing I can think of more dastardly, more evil, mean, bigoted or hateful to do to another person than to let them walk blithely and ignorantly into the gates of hell.
Hate Mormons, no, the vast majority are wonderful folk sadly deceived. Oh there are the professional handlers, the ones who keep the rank and file happily unaware for their own ends, but most a good folk. Why would I not fight to keep then from having a horrible eternal fate.
It is evil I hate, and Mormonism is evil to the max.

Why thank you. I resemble that remark so much except for one, tiny, itty bitty, detail, I'm married to a very devout and active MORMON. A detail some on this thread have chosen to overlook in making their smears. Your premise has been shot to hell "lady".
Your petty, yet ill-conceived attempt to smear all of us has offered a very enlightening perspective that mormons and their defenders have towards us.
The work you have done is so much more significant than I, as an ex-mo, could have ever hoped to achieve on my own.
If you even care to take note, in my first post on this thread, I offered up prayers for this mans family. And then I noticed that you and others like you started posting innuendos about the "anti's" here on FR.
First, referencing the RF as some type of proof that this type of tragedy could be perpetuated as a result of the comments there by using carefully parsed comments to afford some type of cover, plausible deniability. And then you coming right out and saying what many of you were thinking, accusing a FReeper of this heinous act.
It was you and people like you who started this stinking flame war. And not a one of you has attempted to back off of the rhetoric.
I'm grateful my MORMON wife doesn't behave like you or any of the others who have posted comments in the same vein as you.
Healing, huh?....your words, "innocent Bishop was murdered by a mentally ill anti Mormon" don't exactly have a healing tone, nor do the words I responded to..."The killer DEMANDED that his name be removed from the LDS roles several years ago. He was mentally ill and he was an anti Mormon; he hated Mormons."
Don't post inflammatory garbage and then try to put the onus on me because I called you on it.
Keep your innocent act for those who are willing to buy it...I'm not. You are well known.
“he badmouths Christianity every chance she gets...”
That is not true.
