How’s John Q. Public taking this? He’s had to make his kids quit their piano lessons, he’s working long hours for less pay because they fired half the people in his department, no vacations for his family this year, his TV broke and they can’t afford a new one, his wife wanted to buy new linens yet he told her not this year, but his President took 6 vacations this summer, saw the world, ate a lot of ice cream, and got the White House redecorated. John Q. is, I am sure, basking in shared delight that at least his taxes go to making one man’s life a little more luxurious.

I hope the decorator has better taste than the person that assists Michelle with her wardrobe.

I'm afraid the curtains will look suspiciously like one of her dresses. Have you ever seen a boob belt valance?

This seems to have been in the planning stage at least since 2008 when Congress approved the funding.

You can't get the stink out, you have to tear everything up and throw it away.

Frowning takes 68 muscles.
Smiling takes 6.
Pulling this trigger takes 2.
I'm lazy.

The heating, cooling, electrical and fire-alarm systems will be replaced during the four-year, $376 million project in the East and West Wings.

That article says nothing about decorating. I think these are separate projects.

When Nancy Reagan spent a dime redecorating, the MSM gave her hell. She redid the White House with private donations to keep the "press" at bay. Odd how the MSM missed this story - especially since the JournoListers are all friends with the folks in the White House.../s

Nancy directed a major renovation of several White House rooms, including all of the second and third floors[65] and rooms adjacent to the Oval Office, including the press briefing room.[66] The renovation included repainting walls, refinishing floors, repairing fireplaces, and replacing antique pipes, windows, and wires.[64] The closet in the master bedroom was converted into a beauty parlor and dressing room, and the West bedroom was made into a small gymnasium.[67]

The first lady secured the assistance of renowned interior designer Ted Graber, popular with affluent West Coast social figures, to redecorate the family living quarters.[68] A Chinese-pattern, handpainted wallpaper was added to the master bedroom.[69] Family furniture was placed in the president's private study.[68] The first lady and her designer retrieved a number of White House antiques, which had been in storage, and placed them throughout the mansion.[68]

The extensive redecoration was paid for by private donations.[8][68] Many significant and long-lasting changes occurred as a result of the renovation and refurbishment, of which Nancy Reagan said, "This house belongs to all Americans, and I want it to be something of which they can be proud."[68]

I don't think velvet paintings are right for the White House.
