NRA: No endorsement for Reid AND Angle?
Gun Rights Examiner ^ | August 28, 2010 | David Codrea

Posted on 08/28/2010 11:57:43 AM PDT by Neil E. Wright

The National Rifle Association will not endorse Harry Reid for U.S. Senate, Political Victory Fund Chair Chris Cox announced Friday.

Here's why:

"The vote on Elena Kagan's confirmation to the Court, along with the previous year's confirmation vote on Sonia Sotomayor, are critical for the future of the Second Amendment. After careful consideration, the NRA-PVF announced today that it will not be endorsing Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid for re-election in the 2010 U.S. Senate race in Nevada."

That's the right call. But why haven't they endorsed Reid's opponent, Sharron Angle?

"In the coming days and weeks, the NRA Political Victory Fund (NRA-PVF) will be announcing endorsements and candidate ratings in hundreds of federal races, as well as thousands of state legislative races. Unless these announcements are required by the timing of primary or special elections, the NRA-PVF generally does not issue endorsements while important legislative business is pending."

That seems kind of a strange game to play with this race now that they've let the cat out of the bag about Reid. But does that mean if we're just patient with them and keep quiet things should work out in the near future?

Not if The New York Times is correct in their analysis:

"The group will not endorse Mr. Reid’s Tea Party backed challenger, Sharron Angle, either, despite her work to win members over...Keenly aware of the blow, a spokesman for Mr. Reid’s campaign responded quickly, noting that the N.R.A. donated nearly $5,000 to Mr. Reid and nothing to Ms. Angle and that the group’s vice president, Wayne LaPierre, once called Mr. Reid a “true champion of the Second Amendment.”

I did. But the reason I quit was because they endorsed Arlene Sphincter over Pat Toomey a few years back.

But I did tell them that.

If the NRA wants to play with liberal politicians, let them be funded by liberal gun owners.

the non endorsement of Angle is just a gift to Reid. It is a pure politics play.

You have to know the NRA insiders called Reid to cut this deal.

This is a backdoor reid endorsement.

Sounds like the NRA leadership is hearing from its membership and also probably seeing some loss of membership. Since they need to placate their membership and not offend Reid this was their choice of action.

You’re an antigun liar who’s helping to destroy a Second Amendment organization you and Free Republic can’t replace.

ROFLMAO

I've been carrying a gun my entire adult life. Antigun???? Hardly. Just anti-sellout organizations like the nra that "compromise" with the statist "elites" that are attempting to control us.

You keep spouting your BS though, you and all the other nra boosters. I'll continue to point out the sellout nra positions every chance I get.

When my NRA membership expires there will be no renewal.

They may have not formally endorsed Dingy Harry, but the article they had in the American Rifleman a few months ago about the Clark County, NV gun range was nothing short of an informal glowing endorsement IMHO. After reading the article NRA will never get another penny from me again until they get rid of Chris Cox and Wayne LaPierre. Only one photo in the article wasn’t Cox and LaPierre adoring Dingy. Much of the text was about Dingy. I still gag to think of it.

But why haven't they endorsed Reid's opponent, Sharron Angle?

because the *only* reason they are refusing to 'endorse' dirty harry [a champion of the 2A *spit*] is because of the loss of membership for the previous endorsement lead balloon ???

Sounds like they do not want to offend Reid so they won’t support Angle either.

what it really sounds like is an organization that is in too cozy with the beltway crowd and won’t take a principled stand in a time when we need a principled stand against the tyranny of the left.

Life member for about 15 years. Have not sent them a dime in the last 13 and will not until they come to CA and litigate all of these oppressive gun laws. This is a target rich environment, and their refusal to be engaged speaks volumes.

When my membership runs out, I’m switching to Gun Owners of America. LaPierre is too clever by half.
