The Supreme Court's recent McDonald and Heller decisions have thus far thwarted the gun grabbers' best efforts by upholding the individual's right to own firearms. Late Friday, the Environmental Protection Agency added another victory to the list as it shot down an attempt to undermine the Second Amendment through the regulation of bullets. On Aug. 3, the American Bird Conservancy and groups like Public Employees for Environmental Responsibility petitioned the Environmental Protection Agency to ban traditional lead ammunition as a "health risk."
Obviously, the argument was not that recipients of a 45-caliber slug might suffer from lead poisoning. Instead, these activists asserted that bullets weighing less than half an ounce might hit the ground and somehow poison the planet. It just isn't true. The Clinton administration's EPA looked into the issue and found no cause for concern. The claim that "lead based ammunition is hazardous is in error," EPA senior science adviser William Marcus wrote in a Dec. 25, 1999, letter. Lead on the soil surface "does not break down," he explained. It "does not pose an environmental or human hazard. ... In water lead acts much the same as in soil."

i have to admit, my lead based ammo could be a health hazard
It most certainly is upon penetration. :)
They realized that the gun owners would abandon the Democrats in the upcoming election.
They will be back.
this is leftist incrementalism pure and simple...they just keep on trying to chip away and it behooves us to be forever vigilant....

True, but interesting how quickly they backed down on this.
I wonder what they are afraid of.

The petition comment link is also still active. I'll believe this is "rejected" when I see their site change. Watching it here: The Patriot's Flag. There's another source that said the petition site was hit hard today ... so they "heard" us.
They backed down so quickly because the NRA came out guns blazing today and refused to endorse Harry Reid. No doubt the phone lines from democrat politicians to the EPA were busy today.
Sorry, but this is not how these groups work. What happens next is that the group finds a liberal federal judge and sues EPA in federal court. EPA will be defended by the Department of Justice, who will take time off from trying to find a crime they can charge Sheriff Joe with, to make some half-hearted defense of EPA’s refusal.
Then the judge will order EPA to ban lead bullets. The beauty of doing it this way is that huge numbers of liberal trial lawyers working for the environmental groups will now have their exorbitant fees and court costs paid by me and you, the taxpayers. Yay! Free money for liberal trial lawyers!
This is exactly how the EPA got the power to regulate “Greenhouse Gas” and put the screws to the economy.
Gee, but we are all such suckers!
Personally, I bury as much lead waste as I can in wetlands, ponds, and streams. Old car and truck batteries are especially efficient in this effort.
Carry it further - NO consequences will happen to the judge. They are not fearful of reprisal & so they continue & continue until we are all captives/slaves. Does anyone see this to change?
Now the greenies can sue the EPA and they can claim “the courts made us do it.”
They are trying to use the EPA to do a lot of stuff that normal people know is not part of its mission. The EPA needs to be disbanded. I want the EPA totally defunded when the Repubs take over the house and eliminated as soon as practical after that. I will write my representatives regularly about this.
The EPA is going to focus on the Coal Industry and to a lasser degree the Concrete Industries by labeling ‘fly ash’ a hazardous material, remember: “under my plan electricity rates would necessarily skyrocket.” -Obama
Its CRITICAL to keep acations like this CONSTANTLY in mind.
This is a victory for us now, but we must keep our eyes always open.
There will be NEW initiatives by people who feel the Second Amendment has no relevance in today’s world, OR fear an armed electorate OR have a religious hoplophobia.
