My parents, aged 81 and 79, need social security. They are long-term Republicans. They own their house outright (as do we-—paid off a 15 yr mortgage in 9 years). They cannot live on $781.76/month to pay for groceries, property taxes, medicines. Dad worked for 31 years for a GE subsidiary, but by moving him around he never got pension rights. Mom worked for 19 years for the Republican County Committee. Expected a pension. Denied in some “reorganization”.

They have a stock market account—with Fidelity. This lost 76% of value since 2007. Present income was $8.86 last quater. Maybe bad decisions, but they are very decent people who I love.

Some other Freepers may know the problem. Screwed by the system? Y’betcha!

Voting against Social Security? Not a one of us would support a candidate who wants to “privatize” SS.

The economy is fixing Social Security, nobody will be able to afford retirement until they are within a few years of death, which was the original idea anyway. What else is supposed to happen in a society where the only way to have enough young workers paying in is to open borders to unrestricted flow?
