Whitman surges into 8 point lead for California Gov 48/40 with leaners 51/43.
Rasmussen Reports ^

The tie is broken for now, with Republican Meg Whitman, coming off last weekend’s state GOP Convention, moving out to her best showing yet in the race to be the next governor of California.

The latest Rasmussen Reports telephone survey of Likely Voters in California finds Whitman earning 48% support, while Democrat Jerry Brown picks up 40% of the vote. Six percent (6%) prefer some other candidate in the race, and six percent (6%) are undecided.

When leaners are included in the new totals, Whitman posts a 51% to 43% lead over Brown. Leaners are those who initially indicate no preference for either of the candidates but answer a follow-up question and say they are leaning towards a particular candidate.

Early in any campaign, the numbers without leaners are generally more significant. Later in a campaign, the numbers with leaners matter more. After Labor Day, Rasmussen Reports will report the numbers with leaners as the primary indicators of the campaign.

People like you where saying that about Schwarzenegger. Get off it we all know Whitman is a RINO and does not walk on water. Brown is as evil as Barry H and I would rather have RINO’s like McLame (who I gave $ against in the Az. primary) as POTUS and Whitman as Ca. Gov.

Not all republican politicians will be able to walk on the ‘conservative’ water. Ca is a liberal state, if we hang on with a RINO and the country goes conservative we win.
I am a conservative through and through but will vote against politicians who openly say the USA sucks and want communism, is Barry and Brown.

Whitman has run a flawless, aggressive and effective campaign from DAY ONE.

She is a formidable politician.

I know (and somewhat agree) many consider her a RINO. But if she wins the CA Governor spot - she’ll likely be popular - and her presence on the bottom half of whichever presidential ticket Republicans run in 2012 could turn California’s electoral votes red.

Something to think about.

Whitman could surprize a lot of people to the upside.

Arnold is, was and always has been beholden to the socialists who run Hollywood. It was obvious following the special election he lost, someone threatened him somehow, and he folded. Utterly, and completely.

Because he doesn’t really care about the governor job. He cares about his Hollywood job.

Meg is not beholden to Hollywood, or it appears, anyone else.

She could be a lot stronger than Arnold.

It's amusing to see the same PeteWilsonian talking points rolled out, year after year, often from out-of-staters.

It's like pulling the string on a doll and the voicebox whines "Arnold only went liberal because he lost his initiatives," "Arnold will deliver the state for Bush," "California is a deep Blue State," "Better than BustaMoonbeam," etc.

Everyone seems to forget that California has been infested with liberals since the Communist infiltration of Hollywood and San Francisco decades ago. During those decades, California elected Jerry Brown as Governor -- preceded by Republican Ronald Reagan and succeeded by Republican George Deukmejian.

Notwithstanding the fine-print in Schwarzenegger's environmental plan, he ran on a largely conservative platform in 2003. The words touted at campaign rallies, GOP conventions, interviews and campaign propaganda all preached conservative principles. The result? He and McClintock took 68% -- yes, sixty-eight percent -- of the votes in the Recall. That simply cannot happen in a "deep blue" state as some try to paint California.

Unfortunately, "special interests" (as Arnold railed about in 2003) are in control of both parties and neither one represents the people of California. Meg is just the latest Wilsonian RINO-puppet rolled out to cling to control of the Sacramento machine. Everyone I know is just fed up with the lies coming out of our elected officials -- and the endless political advertising. I believe the term is market-saturation (or over-saturation). This 24/7/365 political campaigning at both State and federal levels is tiresome. Everytime we 'get past November,' someone is campaigning for the next election. I wish some of these folks were actually interested in public policy and governing.

Now it's "Pieces of 8, pieces of 8..." and no, I'm not propositioning you. :-) It's just the usual ballot dance... just too too.

Apropos for a bunch of two-bit politicians, no? LOL

The "too too" was a pun on a tutu, ballot dance, pieces of (Prop) 8, and prop 22, both on marriage.

Sorry, it was just 22 convoluted.

LOL. Yep, it was! I would never have gotten that one.

Another one for the voicebox whine collection is "Tiny steps." You know the one -- where people think that electing a RINO and moving to the left a little slower is actually "tiny steps" in the right direction. Unfortunately, as we saw with Arnold, RINOs often accelerate the lurch to the left.

I'd be happy to be surprised. If I lived there I'd probably hit the button for her since I'd be in the booth voting for Carly anyway.
