Sounds like Bush knew Mehlman was gay and Mehlman even made it a point to say that Bush wasn't a homophobe. Maybe this was a part of that "compassionate conservatism" stuff that Bush was trying to sell.

GWB was too trusting. He is old school. He kept allot of Clinton people too who just screwed him silly, figuratively speaking. GWB wanted to believe others were honorable and able to put aside partisan politics. He was WRONG!
