He was literally breathless every time he mentioned Obama’s name.....fair and balanced....not in my opinion.

It could also be a ‘washing’ of the Fox News taint before getting hired by one of the broadcast networks.

“Perhaps like Hollywood stars taking a turn for short pay on Broadway? Re-establishes professional cred between their more lucrative gigs in film.”

Actually, that’s a good point, Lurker. Didn’t think of it.

Gibbs likes Major Garrett. Garrett had stars in his eyes when he covered the Obama campaign. This doesn’t surprise me. I suspect his return to his print journalism roots is more a return to his liberal roots. He was mostly fair and balanced in his reports. I wish him luck. Let’s see if he continues to be fair.

Garrett was doing CONSERVATIVE TV reporting in the mid 1990's on a network ran by Paul Weyrich. I've never seen him as being Liberal but at the same time he seems to be the one who can play the part for liberals to get the story. A satire report he did of Zero's first vacation to Martha's Vineyard was by no means flattering to Zero. Garrett is likely far more Conservative than ones at FOX NEWS like Hannity and I like Garrett a lot more than see-saw RudyBot Hannity.

The loss of Garrett is a biggie for FOX NEWS. Let's face it their evening line up as of late stinks and the weekends with Jerry R is even worse. They should have put Garrett in Sheps time slots. That would have been a great improvement. Fox field reporters have always been better than their show host. Garrett could have easily carried an hour show himself and would have been a lot more interesting than any of the current nightly line up.

I don’t know anything about National Journal, but print media is in a shambles and the wire services often seem to run PR stories!

So maybe National Journal is gearing up to blaze a path back to a quality fourth estate?

One can only hope!

Wow, leaving TV for PRINT? Well, maybe he’ll bring some balance to National Journal.

National Journal wooed him by promising to make him a Lieutenant Colonel.

His wife, Julie Kirtz, also appears on Fox News (mostly on weekends). Her father is a retired Marine colonel and WWII combat veteran so that may have an influence on Major Garrett’s outlook.

More people with integrity will be leaving FNC after this phase...

I would love to see an organization like the Washington Time’s create a network news outlet for TV...

I’m sorry to hear this... big Major Garrett fan here. I wonder why would he leave the uber-successful Fox News Channel to take a job with National Journal?

Major Garrett, I remember seeing him when Tony Snow invited FReepers to stop by Fox Studio for a visit.

..and I will never forget Tony making that comment on the radio about a certain FReeper (who will remain nameless) who commented about Major wearing a baseball cap and tight genes, along with the word THUD.

I do miss Tony, and will miss Major, especially since Fox finally got Helens old front row seat.

Those tight genes always get me.

What I loved most about Major was when Ronald Reagan died he said that after his day was done, he went home, got his son and brought him back to stand in line at the Capital so that his son could view RR’s casket....he won me heart and soul then....I’ll miss him....

Thanks for relating that about Ronald Reagan and Major, I wasn’t aware of it and it increases my admiration for his work and personal views.
