I’m playing optimist here, so I’m going to infer that the jelly-spined local small-time pols are deciding that maybe it’s safer to pander to an aroused majority than keep doing favors for an obnoxious minority.
Authority panders to the loud, aggressive and lawyered-up. Unless, of course, the majority of voters show they actually give a damn AND are paying attention.
I’d say the folks in Mayfield made their opinions known (and made it clear they would vote accordingly when the time came).

That is what I was thinking. People are FED UP, and they are tired of being told to just suck up things happening in their communities that they were not consulted on or asked about. Tolerance is a two-way street, but in this country it has become one-way: we have to tolerate their BS and arrogance, or we are racists. No longer.

Another story about this vote reported that “250 residents cheered” it. There is only 10,000 people in the whole town, so I would say more than 250 was a pretty good turnout.
