Is “Happy Birthday” Song Insensitive?
Fox News ^ | 8/24/10 | Todd Starnes

A ban on singing “Happy Birthday” lasted all of four days at Chesterfield Elementary School in Missouri after angry parents bombarded the school with complaints. “Singing is not permitted due to the sensitivity of all student beliefs,” wrote Principal Jodi Davidson in a letter to parents dated August 13. On August 23 Davidson sent another letter reversing the policy noting that students “are permitted and encouraged to sing the happy birthday song in the classroom.” However, students will not be permitted to sing the traditional song in the cafeteria and all birthday treats must be individually

Completely unrelated, BUT when signing "Happy Birthday" in public - like in a school - legally, you owe the ASCAP a royalty for that performance of that STILL copyrighted song. That's how crazy and insane our copyright laws are.

I have heard - anecdotally - this is the reasons some schools give for not allowing its signing.

With everyone being so “sensitive” to everything these days, how the hell do these perverts get away with teaching little kids how to put condoms on cucumbers? Isn’t anyone “sensitive” about that?

“...and all birthday treats must be individually inspected by the school nurse.”

Who will probably scarf down the best bits. :-)

I do understand that some kids have allergies...but is it really necessary to have a food inspector for birthday treats? Surely some of the foods served in the school lunchroom also would fail “inspection.”

BTW, best school birthday party treat ever...a Mexican girl in my class back in the 3rd grade brought in a Tres Leches birthday cake. Ohmygeezers, was that good!

The link says Fox News but it takes you to a blog.

Not saying the story isn’t a good one. It is. Just a bit confused.

Same mindset as how we marginalize Christmas because not everyone celebrates it. Since some people don’t celebrate birthdays, we’ll just ban it for everyone. It’s the same thought process. It’s liberalism.

Jehova’s Witnesses don’t believe in celebrating birthdays or holidays. That is clearly who the schools were accommodating—like all 1 of them. Pathetic.

I think this only applies if the venue is commercial in nature.

Muslims don't have sensitivities.

They have opportunities.

Frowning takes 68 muscles.
Smiling takes 6.
Pulling this trigger takes 2.
I'm lazy.

Singing Happy Birthday to a child unfairly iscriminates against all hildren who unfortunately don’t have a birthday that day.

Damages their self-esteem, unable to reach full potential, deprives them of their equality, etc.

The most fair outcome is to drop singing this awful song.

Are liberals idiots?

I don't believe they are.

I believe idiocy is their carefully planned cover for living lives of moral cowardice.

Idiocy can be forgiven. Moral cowardice cannot be forgiven.

Thus, liberals hide moral cowardice as idiocy.

Reading articles like this takes the edge off of getting older, because I feel glad that I was able to go to school in a time before fun was outlawed by bitter killjoy liberals.

“We have lots of students who celebrate birthdays on the same day and we just didn’t want to have the loud chaos that happens in the cafeteria,” Davidson told KSDK television. “That should be a calming environment so that it’s safe for all students and they can celebrate their birthdays with their classmates and friends.”

This is what happens when some control-freak (always seems to be some liberal guy named 'Jodi') gets into a position of authority over children and disallows them to behave as, well, CHILDREN .... taking all the fun out of being a carefree happy child in order to indoctrinate them into some controlled order. GEEZ!!! Just let the kids have some fun, Jodi, and not traumatize them forever with your controlling social 'theories' ..

Sooner or later those kids are gonna grow up and revolt, and it ain't gonna be pretty for liberals when they do .....
