The Feminist Left Goes Global on Our Money

Just when we thought President Obama had reached the ultimate in seizing extravagant power by appointing a Health Care Czar (Donald Berwick) to exercise life-and-death surveillance over Medicare and Medicaid, Congress is now trying to give him a Czar with global powers. It would be a Czar over women's issues, worldwide.

Based in the State Department, her statutory title will be "Ambassador-at-Large for Global Women's Issues." Her task will be to assure a "gender integration" perspective in all State Department policies and programs.

The breath-taking reach of her powers is openly stated in the bill's first section: "The Ambassador shall coordinate and advise, and where relevant lead — (1) State Department activities and policies, including as they affect programs and funding relating to prevention and response, including gender integration and women's development internationally as relates to prevention and response."

And if that's not enough, the feminist Ambassador will also be responsible for the "allocation of State Department resources" to carry out the mischief.

Reinforcing her ukases will be a "Women's Development Advisor" with a desk in the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID). This is the same federal agency that sent millions to a radical feminist group in India called Women Power Connect, which used U.S. taxpayers' money to lobby for a 33 percent female quota in the Indian Parliament.

The vehicle for this latest pandering to the feminist left is the International Violence Against Women Act called I-VAWA (S.2982 and H.R.4594). The lead sponsors are Senators John Kerry and Barbara Boxer.

The bill broadly defines violence against women to include non-violent "psychological harm," "intimidation at work," and "psychological violence perpetrated or condoned by the government of the country in which the victim is a resident." Naturally, lots of taxpayers' money will be needed for so awesome a task, so the bill authorizes $1 billion over five years.

The global reach of this new Czar's activities opens the door for Obama's feminist constituency to dictate to other countries. The bill calls for a "comprehensive, five-year international strategy to prevent and respond to violence against women and

Not for nothing but we had some of the best coinage ever minted. The coins featured Lady Liberty, seated, standing, in turban or crown. But that’s not what these feminists are talking about.

Those are the same people who believe the Muslims worship the same God as Christians, and Jews.

"If ever there was a time for God to strike someone.......... "

GOD did not see fit to strike down Castro, Mao, Stalin, Mugabe, Tito, etc. Why would he break precedent for Obama.

GOD helps those who help themselves. In this country we do it with elections and impeachment.

Let's get a strong candidate in 2012. Peace.

I wonder if the Muslim-in-Chief will direct his Czar to start with Saudi Arabia, where they stone women to death for allegedly committing adultery, or require a woman who is raped to have 4 males testify against the rapist or he is not prosecuted.

GOD helps those who help themselves.

Sorry to dissagree with you, but that is not true.

It is said by those who claim that, "God helps those who help themselves!" is in the Bible that the verse can be found in
Hezekiah 6:1

This verse, and neither is that book, in the Bible. Hezekiah sounds plausible enough, but is not a real book of scripture. "Yeah! That's from the book of Hezekiah, isn't it?" is the code-word for these kinds of phantom texts.

This would seem old news by now, but just recently a friend of ours was scandalized when we told her this "verse" did not exist.

More important, this "verse" also, very, very, unbiblical in its meaning. It is exactly the opposite of the message of scripture.

Jer 17:5 (NIV) This is what the LORD says: "Cursed is the one who trusts in man, who depends on flesh for his strength and whose heart turns away from the LORD."

Prov 28:26 (NIV) He who trusts in himself is a fool...

I know that this verse doesn’t appear in Scripture.

The sentiment, however, I have always believed to be that God expects us to do up to what we can do, trusting in Him to do only what He can do. (i.e. not expecting Him to do everything for us). I think about the proverbs of the ant, being productive without anyone telling him what to do, just doing what needs to be done. Not sitting around hoping God will take care of it all without having to lift a finger.

What you need to understand about God, is that He say's' "Blessed is the man who does NOT TRUST HIMSELF, but puts His faith in God to be the provider".

Does not mean to be sluggard, but we must understand that even when we lift a finger to help ourselves, it is by His grace that we are given the strength to even do so.

God wants us to trust Him for everything, not our selves.

I only bring it up, because so many have used that phrase as if God would approve of it. When in fact He does not, because when it is used, especially by Christians, it can leave an unbeliever thinking that we do not need God.

Truth be told is that "God helps those, who help others in His name".

All of this is well researched. Thank you.

But my point was not to quote the Holy Bible. I was just pointing out that just as the founders of this country took the necessary action to bring freedom over 2 centuries ago, we have to take action (vote, petition, protest, etc.) in order to bring about change.

I don't think we would have a country today, unique from all others, if we waited for GOD to do it all. There has to be a sacrifice on a human level in order to get what we want. GOD needs a buy in from us.

It is more likely that one of the founders coined this phrase. In any event, it seems appropriate for our time.

I do understand that. I think what you highlight complements what I said earlier. Christians do work, but they don’t just trust in their own work.

I think we just have to keep a biblical mindset in mind when someone says “God helps those who help themselves” and maybe give them a better phrase like you said at the end, or “Do what you can do, then trust God to do what only He can do” - because I think most Christians who use the other phrase are thinking along more along the lines of my suggested phrase is when they say “God helps those who help themselves”.
