If you were walking alone in an ally in a bad part of town (not that you think they exist), and you just happened to have pocketknife in your pocket for cutting rope or something, and a mugger walk up to you with his own knife and wanted to rape you - would you lay down your knife in the hopes he would lay down his? Would you even pull it out to defend yourself? Or would you sing Kumbaya to encourage him not to rape and kill you?
I've asked this question of hippie/pacifists since the '60's. What I usually got was a blank stare or a response about how yes, they would because all humans are basically good. I rolled my eyes and said you would be deaded. They walked away.
