Ron Paul: ‘This Is All About Hate and Islamophobia’ (RINO Barf Alert)
National Review Online ^

Posted on 08/23/2010 3:28:07 PM PDT by mnehring

Rep. Ron Paul (R., Texas) has issued a lengthy statement condemning “neo-conservative” opposition to the Park51 project. “This is all about hate and Islamaphobia,” said Paul:

It has been said, “Nero fiddled while Rome burned.” Are we not overly preoccupied with this controversy, now being used in various ways by grandstanding politicians? It looks to me like the politicians are “fiddling while the economy burns.”

The debate should have provided the conservative defenders of property rights with a perfect example of how the right to own property also protects the 1st Amendment rights of assembly and religion by supporting the building of the mosque.

Instead, we hear lip service given to the property rights position while demanding that the need to be “sensitive” requires an all-out assault on the building of a mosque, several blocks from “ground zero.”

Just think of what might (not) have happened if the whole issue had been ignored and the national debate stuck with war, peace, and prosperity. There certainly would have been a lot less emotionalism on both sides. The fact that so much attention has been given the mosque debate, raises the question of just why and driven by whom?

In my opinion it has come from the neo-conservatives who demand continual war in the Middle East and Central Asia and are compelled to constantly justify it.

They never miss a chance to use hatred toward Muslims to rally support for the ill conceived preventative wars.

Paul seems to flirt with the Imam Rauf line that American foreign policy in the Middle East invited the September 11 attacks:

If it became known that 9/11 resulted in part from a desire to retaliate against what many Muslims saw as American aggression and occupation, the need to demonize Islam would be difficult if not impossible.

There is no doubt that a small portion of radical, angry Islamists do want to kill us but the question remains, what exactly motivates this hatred?

If Islam is further discredited by making the building of the mosque the issue, then the false justification for our wars in the Middle East will continue to be acceptable.

Meanwhile, Senate Majority Whip Dick Durbin (D., Ill.) is breaking ranks with Harry Reid and supporting the Park51 project:

“The mayor of New York City, Michael Bloomberg, has given his assent to this center and I support his decision,” Durbin said Sunday. “The politicians like Newt Gingrich and Sarah Palin who try to divide America with fear and hate over this issue betray the diversity which makes our nation great and the Constitution which they profess to honor.”

IIRC John Travolta paid a visit to bubba in the White House to press his case for declaring Scientology a religion.

I live in Dunedin ... just up the highway from Clearwater ...

I would disagree with your anology, simply because the Scientologists have NEVER tried to kill 25,000 American on a single day (as the Moslem 9/11 COULD have been) ...

Let the Moslem Swine ROT in HELL ...

“As I recall the IRS under the first Bush Administration worked really hard to revoke their tax exemption, but the Scientologists fought them tooth and nail, and eventually the IRS gave up.”

The exemption actually ocurred back in the late 60’s, but you’re right.
That said, I HATE this mosque. I’m just using a somewhat similar example(with less emotion attached) that a “religion” can do this again despite the distastefulness and hatred these people have for the US.
The govt has set precedent that this thing can be built. And Clearater hates these people as much as Muslims. Notice my previous link that the first page even takes credit for economic prosperity and a reduction in crime! LOL!

Indeed. As good as Ron Paul is on many issues, he is blinded to the threat of islamofascism. One can be against ANY and ALL threats to our freedoms, internal and external, without being a total dumb**** about islamofascism. An intellectual dishonest moron carelessly and casually throws around “neo-conservative” labels to try paint people into a box who dare bring up this real, creeping threat of Sharia into this once great nation. Ron Paul can take his rhetoric and shove it...

Well we could say religious expression is allowed as long as it respected individual rights. So Scientology would not be allowed to keep people captive in slave labor camps in Hemet California, or Islam with Sharia law where men would be allowed to beat their women into submission.

Then if people want to keep their tax exemption, they would have to follow the law or be taxed like a regular business.

The Muslims who want to build this CAN rot in hell. It doesn’t change the law. It was a weak analogy but one I know.

Are you sure they don’t?

Speaking of the Libtardtarian platform, check out this post by the Executive Director of the Libertarian National Committee on how to run the 2012 campaign (hint, run against Reagan).

I’m just trying to seperate my arguement from the emotional to the legal and Scientology was the closest anology to property rights I could come up with. Are Scientologist squeaky clean? Brainwash? Steal property? Alienate? Physically abuse?
There is a parallel here...

Actually, according to the Constitution, they have a right to worship. The 'right to build' isn't a right. They don't own the property and re the 10th Amendment, the citizens and local governments are the ones who have the say-so in regards to things like zoning.

DING! DING! DING!

We have a winner! This is 100% CORRECT.

Paul's just showing his insanity again... I guess it's time for another round of electrotherapy with some Ritalin chasers...
