It is the advocates who were offended on behalf of someone else.
Of course, that is their job, to be offended, but the cost is that we cannot use commonplace words to communicate, which is the problem with Political Correctness.
No, I'm not for capricously hurting anyone's feelings, especially those most helpless to defend themselves--that is a mere question of decency, but I'll be damned if I'm going to verbally walk on eggshells because someone who wasn't part of the conversation, nor referred to, nor intended to be included takes offense at a word.
Otherwise, we might as well throw the dictionary in the shredder and just decide to be offended whenever, wherever, and take whatever action we choose. It is already nearly that capricious.
