Ended the career of catcher Ray Fosse in a dirty play during an All-Star game(!)for no reason at all. Unless maybe he had bet on the game.....
Fosse did not retire until 1979.
Fosse, btw, was also an All Star in 1971 and went on to win World Series rings with the A's.
You don’t know the game very well. It was a clean shot and entirely appropriate. When a catcher blocks the plate he’s asking for it and in this case he got it.
Taking out a catcher in an exhibition like the All Star game was low class.
Maybe he did have a bet on that game too.
Baseball has handled it right. You can’t have gambling associated with the game by its participants.
Ironically, Rose was sent to the federal prison in Marion, Illinois- the hometown of Ray Fosse!
And now you know, the rest of the story!
