GAINESVILLE, Fla A Florida church that was denied a permit for its controversial plan to burn copies of the Koran on Sept. 11 says the book burning will continue anyway.
The Dove World Outreach Center drew international attention after announcing its plan to burn copies of the Islamic holy text on church grounds to mark the ninth anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks.
Gainesville city officials denied a burn permit for the center Wednesday, saying an open burning of books is not allowed under the city's burning ordinance.
But in an e-mail sent out later that day, the church said, "City of Gainesville denies burn permit -- BUT WE WILL STILL BURN KORANS."

I have an aversion to book burning but I have a greater aversion to the willingness of Americans to surrender.

If burning an American flag is a First Amendment right, burning a Koran should be one too.

Celebrating the burning of 3000 Americans seems to be a First Amendment right.

They could get a fireplace installed by then to eliminate the firecode issue...then burn away! Perhaps draw some Mohammad cartoon pics in the pages first, then burn them.

Yeah, a huge fireplace, maybe with a fire opening 10 feet wide. It could serve double duty for Yule logs at Christmastime.

They could be burned in a closed screened pit.Problem solved.
I'm OK with the Koran burning, but I'm sure the city is just concerned about the safety of the surrounding community.....and the possibility of their heads getting sawed off...;^)

I bet the city would have no issue with the ACLU burning copies of Ann Coulter’s books.

I wonder if it's a regular church, or just a front group to make Christians look stupid or bad, such as the funeral-chasing Westborough baptist "Church" which is anything but. The "preacher" sure likes publicity. So far it sounds like a one-man show.
The Westborough church, known for visually desecrating the funerals of military personnel with its "gods hates fags" signs, is led by a doofus lawyer who is also an Al Gore fan and donor.

Since the press has an interest in it, and it’s into election season, it’s probably a Westborough type front. You can’t get the press to cover anything real if your life depended on it.

You are right, of course. Only the ones that actually practice what the Koran preaches are kooks.
