The GOP, taking the high-road, will allow the controversy to drop. Those running for office will not press their challengers to put their opinion on record or use it against them if they are for the mosque. Those in office will stop forcing their “dear friends” to go on record and won’t use it against them.
That’s if we allow the story to go away.
Check out this open letter to Conservatives from the boys at HillBuzz. It’s a lesson on why we lose to the Left although the majority of America agree with us on most issues. They’re begging us to go after the Left, on this very issue and show us what we must do to win.

THAT is a brilliant letter. Thanks for linking to it.
The Stupid Party is already engaged in figuring out how to let their Good-Friends-Across-The-Aisle off the hook. Why pick this hill to die on? Why pick any hill to die on?
Why get snubbed at all those tony parties with admiring reporters and news anchors? Can one just imagine the angst if one isn't invited onto a Sunday Show or guest panel? Isn't it painful when they either ignore you or twist your words? Then, there is always the,... ahem,... possibility one of those "unfortunate" videos on you will surface or the DOJ will start looking into your campaign donations and trips.
Besides. Staying weakly one-dimensional keeps one nicely out of trouble and feeding from the trough, right?
