SPRINGFIELD — The state’s budget is in the tank. The voters are angry. And the Rod Blagojevich trial is starting all over again. It’s a great day to be a Republican in Illinois.
Quoting one Illinois “poet,” state Republican Party Chairman Pat Brady told thousands of party faithful at the State Fair this opportunity is “Bleeping Golden!”
A live band blasted the Twisted Sister song “We’re Not Gonna Take It,” as red, white and blue confetti was blasted into the air. A three-story American flag fluttered next to the stage in the summer heat.
“Are you fired up?” U.S. Rep. Mark Kirk asked, borrowing Barack Obama’s mantra from the last election. “Think we’re going to win? I can feel it in my bones!”
Unsuccessful candidate for governor Dan Proft took a shot at Kirk’s Democratic opponent for the U.S. Senate, Alexi Giannoulias, saying, “Getting a lecture from Ali Giannoulias on honesty and integrity is like getting a lecture from Drew Peterson on domestic violence.”

Nice to see some support for Mark Kirk from Pat Hughes. Kirk is not an ideal candidate for most of us but neither was McCain in 2008 and John McCain would have been 1000X better for the country as president than the man who defeated him.
Yes. I thought all the Republicans were getting along pretty well at this event. I think there is a sense that this is their year and Blago is the gift that keeps on giving.
Kirk is 100 times more liberal than McCain and the IL GOP is just as crooked and liberal as the Dems.
