PALADINO HITS LAZIO'S FEAR OF DEBATE "What's he afraid of - I'm no Hillary Clinton"
(BUFFALO, NY) - Buffalo businessman Carl Paladino today called on his opponent Rick Lazio to debate for the third day, invoking a name the career politician and lobbyist would rather forget: Hillary Clinton.
"I don't know why Rick is so afraid to debate me on the issues New Yorkers care about the most. I'm no Hillary Clinton," Paladino said. Republican donors invested $45 million in Lazio's 2000 US Senate race against Clinton. Many attribute his spectacular failure to his poor performance in a Buffalo debate against Clinton.
"I attended that debate and I thought Rick did pretty well," Paladino said. "He's spent his whole adult life in politics so he's a pretty experienced debater. I've never debated, yet I'm not afraid to stand up in front of millions of New Yorkers and tell them where I stand. Is he so arrogant that he believes the voters don't deserve answers?"
Paladino agreed to debate Lazio the first time he was asked. News reporters have turned up the heat on Lazio in recent days, pressing him to debate Paladino in a neutral forum. When confronted yesterday by a YNN reporter, Lazio said it would be "up to my campaign staff to decide."
"So Rick's staff makes these decisions? That's speaks volumes about his complete lack of management experience," Paladino said. "I don't delegate such important business decisions to the 450 people who work for me and I won't do it as governor of New York."

I gotta admit, Lazio perplexes me. Does he think there is this massive voter pool of folks who like him? Granted I’m not a New Yorker, but I’ve yet to encounter a fan of his among my NY friends.
I am delighted that Mr. Paladino is no Hillary Clinton.
I’m no Hillary Clinton either.
Is it me or does Paladino have more fire in his belly? I saw an interview with Lazio on CNN and he seemed a bit lack luster. What do freepers in NY think?
The gop in ny are such wheenies that they always pick the safe candidate. What a joke they are. Primaries are important to get rid of the rinos.
I can't wait to vote for Paladino -- I think he will carry upstate. Whether that can counter Long Island, I don't know.
