"What funded the federal gov prior to the income tax? "

Could it have been funded by the sale of public land?

However, that was not enough for the greedy people in Washington so beginning a little over one hundered years ago they began to tax in earnest.

Do you recognize any of these taxes?

It was funded by the sale of public lands, which really doesn't sound appropriate from the get-go, and by tariffs.

...and yes, I recognize those taxes. Sickening ain't it?
