IIRC, Peter Robinson was a speechwriter for President Ronald Reagan.
He wrote a book about how Reagan changed his life.
I heard Robinson on a radio interview about how Reagan sent his
“Mr. Gorbachev, TEAR DOWN THIS WALL” speech, only to have the draft sent to
the State Department with notes that basically said “Mr. President,
you can’t say that!”
After a few more exchanges with The State Department, Reagan ignored
their counsel and made one of the most exciting speeched in history.
I read some time ago about President Reagan ignoring the State Department and going ahead with the TEAR DOWN THIS WALL speech but didn’t realize Peter Robinson was a speechwriter for him, I should pay more attention. :)
