Americans increasingly are convinced — incorrectly — that President Barack Obama is a Muslim, and a growing number are thoroughly confused about his religion.
Nearly one in five people, or 18 percent, said they think Obama is Muslim, up from the 11 percent who said so in March 2009, according to a poll released Thursday. The proportion who correctly say he is a Christian is down to just 34 percent.
The largest share of people, 43 percent, said they don't know his religion, an increase from the 34 percent who said that in early 2009.
The survey, conducted by the nonpartisan Pew Research Center and its affiliated Pew Forum on Religion & Public Life, is based on interviews conducted before the controversy over whether Muslims should be permitted to construct a mosque near the World Trade Center site. Obama has said he believes Muslims have the right to build an Islamic center there, though he's also said he won't take a position on whether they should actually build it.

Judaism is passed from mother to child. Christianity, depending on denomination tends to follow the father. What is the official position with Muslims? Does it follow the mother, father or both? Or do they not even consider it since a person marrying a non-muslim is a death penalty offense.

This minister, Usama Dakdok, has dug into Obama's background deeply enough to provide a pretty solid argument that Obama is a muslim and a radical at that.

I think he well could be a Muslim. However, he is most likely an athiest or agnostic with strong Muslim sympathies. He went to a Black Liberation Theology “Church” just to check the religion block on his political ticket. Would be amazed if he really is a Christian. Would not surprise me too much if he came out as a Muslim after he leaves office (in an autobiography).

He’s already told us he was a muslim . . . in his own words . . . and the interviewer had to correct him . . . his holiness didn’t correct himself, the interviewer had to say, “You mean Christian?”. Everything he’s done has shown that he is not only an America-hating muslim, but he is a DEVOUT America-hating muslim. He bows to the muslim leaders and only extends a handshake to leaders of Christian countries. I wouldn’t be at all surprised to find out that the ba$tard was using prayer rugs in our White House.
Islam holds to patrilineal descent, so under the plain terms of Islamic law, President Obama is considered to be a Muslim because his father was. Whether he considers himself to be is another question, but Islamic law considers him to be.
