SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- Voters along California's Central Coast on Tuesday turned back a Democratic attempt to gain more power in the state Legislature, electing a Republican to fill a vacant state Senate seat.
The win by state Assemblyman Sam Blakeslee denies Democrats the opportunity to consolidate their power in the Senate and come within one vote of claiming the two-thirds majority needed to pass budget plans and tax increases.

I hope that Blakeslee is more conservative than Maldonado.
Blakeslee has got to be better than that back stabbing Rino Maldonado. It takes a 2/3 vote in the Senate and in the Assembly to raise taxes. One vote can make the difference.
Maldonado can waste away in the Lt. Governor slot until he disappears like Cruz Bustamante.
California is that close to total chaos.
Cruz who??? LOL I had forgotten all about that poor fat fellow!!!
That IS news... in California!!
I my CA state assembly district, the area includes southern Sonoma County, all of Marin County, AND northern SAN FRANCISCO just to seal the deal. As a result, my CA state senator is an openly homosexual liberal who served on the San Francisco board of supervisors. This is the guy who votes his perversion and gave us Harvey Milk Day.
Let’s hope that things will get better under the new redistricting commission that will be establishing new assembly and senate districts using the 2010 census. Of course, in this state, one can only hope. Plus, who knows how much Obama was able to bend the census count his way.
