The organization planning to build a mosque and Islamic center near Ground Zero denied reports Tuesday about a scheduled meeting to discuss the matter with New York Gov. David Paterson. The group reaffirmed that it has no intention of moving the controversial project.
Earlier Rep. Peter King (R.-N.Y.), a vocal critic of the plan, said Paterson told him during a phone conversation that he planned to meet with the developers later this week to discuss the possibility of an alternative site.
The project is the brainchild of Feisel Abdul Rauf, an Islamic cleric who heads the Cordoba Initiative, an organization whose stated goal is to improve Muslim-West relations.
Formally called Park51 – the address is 45-51 Park Place in lower Manhattan, about 200 yards from the World Trade Center site – the project widely dubbed the “Ground Zero Mosque” has become a major national political issue.
Opponents argue that its location is insensitive to the families and loved ones of those killed and injured when al-Qaeda attacked on 9/11. The terrorist network claims to be driven by the tenets of Islam.
Paterson last week offered the organizers state assistance if they agreed to move the site, but they declined.
Tuesday’s news suggested a fresh bid by the governor, but the Cordoba Initiative shot down the idea.
“Imam Feisel Abdul Rauf is currently abroad,” it said in a statement. “Despite several media reports, there have been no meetings scheduled between Imam Feisel and Governor Paterson, nor have there been any communications between the offices of Cordoba Initiative and the Governor.”

this mosque will not be built
I am pretty sure Obama will pull out the stops and will guarantee the Mosque will be built no matter what his ratings become, he is laughing at America, he knows it will draw rage and anger, he is thriving on it.
The only thing they hope to achieve (besides a victory monument) is to egg on the American public into anti-muslim sentiment so they have something to complain about. That’s all. This is just an “in your face” attempt at it. Much like the Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton, and Shirley Sherrod crowd.
It’s interesting to look at the ownership currently. Three Islamic guys came to buy the property around two years ago. Most folks who know the market and have commented about this...say the guys wanted the old Burlington Coat factory as a “flip” opportunity. The market was down and they thought that they were buying at the lowest point, but the market actually went lower and then extended itself.
I’m thinking after twelve months...they were really expecting the property market to return, and they’d double their $5 million investment, and it never did. So they need some rich dopey folks....like the Saudis...to get into this deal. I think this was the best creative deal that they could make in a bad real estate period.

If one were to hearken back to the halcyon days of the Bush Administration, one would remember that, when Bush adviser Karen Hughes was appointed Undersecretary of State for Public Diplomacy, the Bush Administration saw improving America’s standing among Muslims abroad as a part of its national security strategy. And, as such, Hughes set up listening tours, attended meetings and worked with interfaith groups that — shocking, by today’s Republican standards — included actual Muslims.
One of those people was Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf.
Contemporary press accounts indicate that Rauf and Hughes were part of the February 2006 U.S.-Islamic World Forum in Doha, Qatar. He was part of a delegation that met with her in March 2006 and held a joint press conference. A letter to then-Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice in November 2007 indicates that contacts with Hughes and Under Secretary for Political Affairs Nicholas Burns had continued apace.
And, of course, an interview with Foreign Policy in 2007 explored both the depths of his ongoing contact with the Administration and his so-called radical views.

Definitely a victory Mosque. Just check the name, “Cordoba”. Cordoba was Islamic Spain’s capital before the reconquista. It’s meant to show that the 3rd Muslim Expansion is well underway.
