People posting replies like that seems to be off base and missing the point. Like you said, how can you know in advance if a female is a lady or not. Unless, they are talking about the teenage-20 somethings that don't dress to their fashion standards of quasi-burkas.

I hold the door for men, women, young, old, black, white, latino, weird looking, nice looking, fat, shapely, etc. I don't see what the problem is. It's a kind, nice and right thing to do.

Ditto and I have never had anyone say anything rude. The worst thing I get is lack of a thank you, but so what? I don’t do it for a thank you. Getting one is just very nice.

Thank you, there are a lot of us who appreciate that you do. My teenage daughters notice when someone holds the door for them, opens the car door or pulls out a chair for them. They say “thank you”, too.
