Mark Levin today slammed NJ Governor Chris Christie for his sanctimonious attitude that the controversy over the Mosque at ground Zero is "just politics" and "is being used as a political football by BOTH parties!" He says that this attempt By Christie to make the two positions on the mosque (pro and con) equivalent is nothing more than a naked effort to portray himself as "above it all" and look down his nose (so to speak) at those who have the courage to oppose this thing (most prominently former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin--although Levin does not mention her by name).
Levin praised the courage of those who have stood up to Obama and Bloomberg and opposed this mosque. The "Great One" said that Christie was "dead wrong" to link the opposition to the mosque to intolerance.
Quote: "Just becasue you clobber public sector unions and cut your state's budget does not necessarily mean you are Presidential material." Levin also says he is concerned about Christie's immigration positions.
He tells Christie to: "get serious and take a position" rather than being afraid to "get your hands dirty" by taking a position. The clip is only 2:45 and is worthwhile to listen to.
Good for Mark.
Mr. Christie, you will not be allowed to vote present on this, and neither will anyone else.
I had a lot of hope for Christie. I guess I’ve been bamboozled by a politician again. That has been happening to me a lot lately.
Ping!
Christie’s entire statement:
Given my last position, that I was the first U.S attorney post 9/11 in New Jersey. I understand acutely the pain and sorrow and upset of the family members who lost loved ones that day. At the hands of radical Muslim extremist. And their sensitivities and concerns have to be taken into account. Just because its nearly nine years later, those sensitivities cannot and should not be ignored. On the other hand, we cannot paint all of Islam with that brush We have to bring people together. And what offends me the most about all this, is that its being used as a political football by both parties. And what disturbs me about the president remarks is that he is now using it as a political football as well. I think the president of the United State should rise above that. And should not be using this as a political football, and I dont believe that it would be responsible of me to get involved and comment on this any further because it just put me in the same political arena as all of them.
My principles on this are two-fold. One, that we have to acknowledge, respect and give some measure of deference to the feelings of the family members who lost there loved ones there that day. But it would be wrong to so overreact to that, that we paint Islam with a brush of radical Muslim extremists that just want to kill Americans because we are Americans. But beyond that I am not going to get into it, because I would be guilty of candidly what I think some Republicans are guilty of, and the president is now the president is guilty of, of playing politics with this issue, and I simply am not going to do it.
Asked if hed call upon both parties to stop, he said, Well, that again will be playing politics with the issue. I said what I feel about it, and I dont believe it is up to me to pontificate on other people about what they should do. I just observe what I observe. And I dont believe that this issue should be a political football. I just dont. And I think that both sides of this issue now are using this as a political football. And I dont think it brings people together in America, I think it just further drives people apart, and creates divisions, and I think thats bad for our country. And all people in our country suffer when those kind of things happen.
Well, since Christie doesnt get a vote on this at all, I guess it doesnt matter what his opinion is.
Where are all of the Federalists and State’s Rights people here? Why do we care what the Governor of one state thinks of the actions of the mayor of a city in another state?
“I am not going to get into it, because I would be guilty of candidly what I think some Republicans are guilty of, and the president is now the president is guilty of, of playing politics with this issue, and I simply am not going to do it.
In other words the Republicans who have the courage to stand up against this are “playing politics” with the issue. I wonder if this creep realized how that sounded after it rolled off his thick tongue. Sarah Palin is just as bad as Obama, ey, Chrissie?
Aside from his being anti-spending, what hope did you have in him? He never promised any social issues and he even said that in a state like Jersey, he wouldnt allow guns. How did he bamboozle you if he never promised these things?
I notice a number of Republican politicians today adopting Palin's position on the mosque ("We know they have the right to build it, Mr. President, but should they?") without mentioning her. LOL. Some lead, some follow.
"Christie's entire statement" is a post of 441 words.
How about, "Hell, no."
Christie's going to get a hernia trying to straddle this issue.
WTF, "bring people together" vs. "drive people apart"--
They knocked the towers down, murdered 3,000, and want to plant their flag on the scene of the crime like the famous Iwo Jima photo and statue.
And Christie tries to make nice-nice with a mouthful of dhimmi excrement.
Not havin' that.
“If he ever runs for national office, Christie will have to come to places like here in TX and explain it.”
Exactly right, Al. Christie is just the “flavor of the month” as the MSM and the Establishment desperately cast about for someone who can stop “she whose name must not be spoken”. LOL
The attempt to place a mosque at the site where jihadists murdered 3,000 innocent people is an attempt to deliver the ultimate slap in the face to America. The building will represent nothing less than a giant, permanent monument to Islamic victory over America. It’s like a practical joke. Muslims (and everybody else around the world, for that matter) are laughing their asses off.
You either understand this or you are a fool.
As far as I am concerned, anyone who does not openly stand against this mosque is an enemy of myself and my country.
There is no grey area whatsoever.
We are at war.
Hey, Osama and Obama look alike! I can’t tell one from the other.
:)
“You either understand this or you are a fool.”
Christie just permanently disqualified himself from National office.
Evidently Christie doesn’t realize that it’s not just those who lost loved ones who were impacted by the attacks.
America was attacked. The people on the planes were from all across America, their families will never get over their pain.
It’s not about NY, it’s about America.
Christie tried to finesse the issue.......he didn’t quite get there. But he by no means deserved the headline.
Right. This is not a blurred issue.
9/11 happened. Like Sarah said, this is their 9/11 mosque. No doubt about it.
My impression was that he was squishy on abortion. But the fact that he is a lib on the Second Amendment and Islamofascism makes him a nonstarter for me.
