actually it wasn’t the young vote that put 0bummer into office. This has been a urban myth . There was no significant uptick for the dems in the 2008 election from the young vote.

According to Pew "66% of those under age 30 voted for Barack Obama making the disparity between young voters and other age groups larger than in any presidential election since exit polling began in 1972."

Democrat share of age 18-29 Presidential vote:

2008: 66%
2004: 54%
2000: 48%
1996: 53%
1992: 43%
1988: 47%
1984: 40%

Among voters over 30, Obama got just 50% to McCain's 48%.

I think your numbers might be correct, however, Since the voter over 30 is pretty inclusive, it is misleading. I read somewhere that it was a “grey” vote that elected 0bama since the young vote, no matter how disproportional, was still relatively small compared to the elder vote.
