Feds clear (Tom) DeLay after six years

The Justice Department has informed former House Majority Leader Tom DeLay (R-Tex.) that the government has ended a six-year investigation of his ties to the disgraced lobbyist Jack Abramoff, according to DeLay's lead counsel in the matter, Richard Cullen, chairman of McGuireWoods.

The investigation lasted through two presidents and four attorneys general. Its demise provides a stark footnote to the lobbying scandals that helped Democrats regain the House majority they held for 40 years and lost in the Republican revolution of 1994, which eventually made the pugnacious DeLay one of Washington’s top power brokers.

In political writing, I thought the word “pugnacious” was held in reserve for use only in descriptions of Pat Buchanan...

A state case continues in Texas, with a hearing scheduled for Aug. 24. A trial is expected next spring, and could last several weeks.

He's not finished.

You need to pay attention to facts. Delay was speaking of Hurricane Katrina and of course the media made it out to be something it wasn’t:

Mr. DeLay was defending Republicans’ choice to borrow money and add to this year’s expected $331 billion deficit to pay for Hurricane Katrina relief. Some Republicans have said Congress should make cuts in other areas, but Mr. DeLay said that doesn’t seem possible.

I will remember him for redistricting Texas and taking me out of Ron Paul’s district (which I could live with) and putting me in Lloyd Dogshitts district.

re: Pugnacious.

Politico uses two lists of suggested terms.

One list for Republicans and one list for Democrats.

If this story had been about a Democrat the list would have suggested using the words aggresive or determined.

I love Tom Delay. He was a great leader. I just think he was railroaded on trumped up charges. The same with Lott. The rats smear them and somehow always manage to make it stick. I don’t think it was Delay so much as I blame Republicans for not sticking together and standing by their own.

When are the Republicans going to change their congressional rules so their members are innocent until proven guilty, like the Democrats have for their members???

Let’s be honest about this, shall we?

I do not see a RAT that is worth spitting on.

As far as I am concerned the entire party should be eliminated.

Tom DeLay fought long and hard. He was a good Congressman and a true Conservative. He stood for what he believed in and in the end it cost him. He is a good man and I will always respect and admired him.

ronnie earle retired in 2008 or 2009. His understudy - who is just as liberal - took the DA office now.

Yes, where does he go to get his reputation back?

The story neglected to list those members of Congress who objected to cooperate with the Department of Justice. Those slime-maggots should be outted in every story related to Abramoff.
