Why is he showing his passport?

Why doesn’t he show his birth certificate? Is it the pressure from the birth certificate controversy that forces him to now show his passport?

I have never heard anyone asking to see his current passport, but I have heard tens of thousands of people asking to see his longform birth certificate.

Why doesn’t he just hold that up ?

“He” isn’t showing anything. A White House employee is showing the passport in response to a citizen’s question about it. There are people who have questioned whether Obama is an American citizen at all and whether he is eligible to have an American passport. The Youtube video settles that one question, yes Obama has a US Passport.

Obama put his birth certificate on the internet for the whole wide world to see in April of 2008. It says that he was born at 7:24 pm on August 4, 1961 in Honolulu, Hawaii.
The Director of the Hawaii Health Department, the Hawaii Registrar of Vital Statistics, the Republican Governor of Hawaii and the Republican Attorney General of Hawaii have all confirmed that information.

Is there any other president in American history that we know the exact moment of birth for? I don’t think so.

There is no additional information on the long form birth certificate that is relevant to being eligible to be president. The Constitution does not ask what hospital a president was born in (many presidents weren’t born in hospitals). The Constitution does not require a president’s birth to be attended by a physician and what the doctor’s name was. The Constitution could care less what a president’s birth weight was. The Constitution is mute on what a president’s parents’ home address is and what their occupations are.

Anybody who cares about this issue already knew that Obama’s father was a Kenyan since Obama himself wrote a book in 1995 called “Dreams From My Father” which detailed his father’s birth and life in Kenya and that his father was never an American citizen.

If anybody really needs to see Obama’s original birth certificate, under Hawaii law it can be subpoenaed without Obama’s permission. It probably would be better for crediblity to have Obama have nothing to do with the release of that official, certified document, anyway.
