The demographic changes in Colorado have been dramatic over the past 20 years. In 1990 the foreign born population of the state was 139,800 including 32,712 Mexican-born; in 2000, it was 380,841 with 192,427 Mexican-born . In 2008 there are 489,187 foreign born and the Hispanic population is 963,831 or 19.9% of the population.

Internal migration from CA certainly contributes to the demographic changes, but so does immigration. Colorado is rapidly becoming a blue state. People like Tancredo understand what is happening.

Maes wouldn’t win the head to head match anyway. Tancredo is just sending the RINOs a message, i.e., no more holding our noses and voting for the lesser of two evils.

Oh yeah...that's a winning strategy. This continued purity crap get us NOWHERE.

Is it purity crap to expect one's elected representative to enforce immigration law???

It's holding our noses for the lesser of two evils that has allowed: the US to become overrun with illegal aliens demanding their 'rights' and a bigger piece of the pie proved by taxpayers, foreign gangs who traffic in drugs and people to infest the country and shut down some national land to Americans, 125,000 new legal workers to enter the US each month while unemployment is ~ 20%, 8 million illegal aliens to have jobs while unemployment is ~20%

I have to admit, this Maes is one of the few politicians I’ve seen who openly criticises the handover of American sovereignty to the UN!

This won't be a popular position with some, but my opinion is that first we need to remove all Democrats, and then we can work on the RINO’s.

When the choice is limited to one or the other.

We stand a better chance of forcing RINO officials to bend to our conservative wishes than we will a Democrat.

We need to get rid of BOTH the RINOS and the RATS. The RINOS are only in it for their share of the swag and have aided and abetted the RATS for a long, long time.

Are we for Conservatives or Republicans?

As far as supporting Maes is concerned - both.

"And what are your thoughts on why Tom didn’t seek the Republican nomination"

Tom had no intention of running for Governor. But once he saw the caliber of the gop candidates, he felt the call to do his duty. If we continue to elect candidates just because of party affiliation, we truly don't deserve what's left of this Constitutional Republic. I for one am ashamed of what we have allowed to happen in this country.

To all those who think a split ticket for the Maes/Tancredo is good I can only say: Enjoy your time under Hickenlooper! I don’t live in Colorado.

With Tancredo
Hickenlooper 43%
Maes 31%
Tancredo 18%
Hickenlooper wins!! Goody for you!! More ultra left socialism!! Yee ha!!

Without Tancredo
Hickenlooper 43%
Maes 49%
Maes wins!! Dems lose!

And you thought Tancredo was working for your side. Suckers!

"Poll after poll shows the public on the side of Tancredo when it comes to immigration issues."

... From 1986 to yesterday, the course of immigration policy has been worse and worse. What the booboisie demands, it gets. Just look at low taxes and high public spending as two examples.

So, if the public is on your side on this question, you really need a better explanation of reality.

How about this explanation the RINOS are behold to their corporate sponsors and could give a rats *ss about the average american.

Up to now it has only been every day americans melting the phone lines, fax machines, and clogging the email that have prevented amnesty. Remember Bush and his reference to american who expected the border to be secure as vigilantes?

If this country is ever to be saved we need to sop looking at the R or D, and looking closely at the candidate and his history.

It's okay. Tancredo isn't running as a Republican. He's running as a Conservative.

No he's not. Conservatives don't try to assure that liberal Democrats get elected. Tancredo is no conservative - he's just a sniveling opportunist who was too cowardly to try his hand at winning the GOP primary.

I find it stunning how many of you will sale your principals just to win an election.

Like I mentioned earlier, I find it amusing to see all these people running around here on FR gibbering about "principles" - a term that they get to define for themselves that just so happens to coincide with their personal preference on electoral strategy.

Funny that.

Sorry, but if somebody's "principles" include helping leftist Democrats get elected over conservative Republicans, then their "principles" aren't worth a hill of beans.

... After the McCain episode, I vowed never to compromise my principles again. The only way conservatives are going to get back the Rep party is to demonstrate to the RINO establishment that they can not win elections without us.

I'm with you on this. That 'lesser of two evils' Kool-aid is like reward the bad behavior of a two year old, and wondering why whings keep getting worse.

"he's just a sniveling opportunist who was too cowardly to try his hand at winning the GOP primary"

Unfortunately this is what we have come to. No need to make a reasoned argument, just trow out some childish insult.

How many of you still can't figure out how obumber got elected?

Well handing the election to the most liberal mayor of Denver is not going to bode well for Colorado when it comes to illegal immigration, Tancredo and his ego are single-handedly going to contribute to the ruin of Colorado is this hick is elected Governor.

Well, for you that vore ticket, congratulations! You are the 60% of the suckers that give us the RINOs because the Republican party, and the Democratic party, KNOWS you will not vote for anything else but your party.

Both parties know that 60% of voters are ticket voters. They can give you whatever candidates they want and they know you will vote for them. So, just exactly what leverage are you apply to the party? Anything? What difference are you making? You are the people giving us RINOs, not me and anyone else looking at candidates as individuals and not party hacks. You are giving us the lousy candidates.

The parties know that 60% of voters will vote their ticket and now all they need to do is pander to the other 40% with lots and lots of giveaways and single issue items to be had and politicians talking out of both sides of their mouths. Lots of promises. You they are not worried about. They’ve got your vote. You are immaterial to the campaign.

Black, women, and other liberal voters. Simple as that. Republicans could have run Jesus Christ himself and lost.
