Margaret Thatcher. I say we don't let the Brits make us look like cowards. Palin 2012. Heck, anybody but Romney.

Thatcher is if anything an even better precedent for Sarah Palin than Reagan, although they share many common virtues. Thatcher came from a relatively minor position, as education minister if I recall, and was similarly scorned as being not executive material. She overcame a hostile press as did Reagan, as does Palin, by her authenticity.

One thing the media has not been able to figure out is, how to counter charisma. Reagan had it. Palin has it. Obama doesn't have it, although the 'rats and their media whores strove mightily to try to manufacture it. In the end it takes more than a few women hired to stage phoney fainting spells to prove you're The One.
