A check from Uncle Sam gets your attention, even if the money doesn't help that much with the bills. More than 750,000 Medicare recipients with high prescription costs each got a $250 government check this summer, and 3 million-plus more checks are going out to people who land in the program's anxiety-inducing coverage gap.
Democrats, running scared in an election year, are trying to overcome older people's mistrust of the new health care law, which expands coverage for younger generations by cutting Medicare payments to hospitals and insurers.
Will the ploy work?
"It's like a teaser," says Virginia Brant, 65, of Glendale, Ariz. "You go to Vegas and they give you the free spin on the wheel. We have had our teaser—the $250—for us to say, `Gee, look at what we have coming.'"

Well according to the little old ladies who live in the retirement high rise my Mom lives in this is only going to the “rich” who can afford to spend that much on their medicines unike them who depend on Medicare which OBAMA just cut.I’d have to say that I have met none there who who have anything nice to say about Obama.I’ve heard much bad about him and how he’s screwing up everything.I do not talk about privatizing social security,I do value my life!!
I don't want taxpayer subsidies -- I demand some rational price structure for pharmaceuticals.

I think anyone getting those checks should contribute to those running against dems in November, except no incumbents!!! Split it up and spread it out AND let the WH know what you are doing with it. I have yet to see a check or a letter but if I’m in the mix, that’s what I intend to do......AND with my husband’s.....I’ll be kind enough to let him know what I decided to do with his....I’m considerate that way!!!

Why do you think WE helped him get in office? We didn’t and I don’t know any senior who did...Unless seniors are brain dead, we’ve been around long enough to know a scam when we see one.
I didn’t get ma’ chek yet, but when ah do, I’m giving it direkkly to a Republican candidate. Now, ‘course in a non-election year I would buy 250 Powerball tickets, take the winnings and buy me some democrats already in congress. They come pretty cheap, I hear.

Here in one of the blue-state bastions of Oregon, seniors voting for a republican would be tantamount to voting for the devil, himself!
I think even a small percentage of the large senior block, (who originally voted for 0bama), votes against 0bama's legacy this fall, will be significant enough to sway the election.
Plus all of us others who are just pissed and ready to revolt!
thats a lot of money out the window...Dems must look at everyone as low and stupid if they thing a tiny little $250 will buy votes..maybe among the ignorant who are used to doing as they are told by the new Black Panthers. thats like getting 10 bucks today.
And if Americans will sell their vote for $250 then they deserve it..too many people do not understand what this counrty was founded on.
a 76 year old client of mine, who voted for dumbama, got her check one month ago....she laughed to the point she’s crying as she realizes what a huge mistake she made voting for that POS...

If ah reckemember correckly it were a Republican President who came up with this here idee of taxpayer-subsidized drugs.
Here in Californy it's hard to figger out what Republican candidate can win and won't go all RINO if elected. Carly maybe - she needs money. I think I'll do it, with a nice "thank you" note to Sibelius, telling her where the money went.
