US trust of media dwindling (1/4th of Americans trust the news media.. that number seems awful high)

WASHINGTON (AFP) – No more than one-quarter of Americans trusts the news media, but the greatest confidence in the struggling newspaper industry ironically comes from young people, a poll said Friday.

The Gallup poll found that 25 percent of Americans felt a "great deal" or "quite a lot" of confidence in newspapers and 22 percent in television news, in line with a steady slide over the past two decades.

The media were among the national institutions in which Americans placed the least confidence, although Congress, big business and health care coverage providers fared worse.

However, 49 percent of 18-to-29-year-olds said they placed confidence in newspapers, the same demographic often blamed for the precipitous decline in US dailies' subscription rates.

Confidence falls sharply once Americans get older, with only 19 percent of 30-to-49-year-olds trusting newspapers before the figure rises among middle-aged and elderly people.

Explaining the results, Gallup said young people tended to place more trust in institutions in general and noted that online media, despite growing popularity, often linked back to traditional media.

"But so long as roughly three in four Americans remain distrustful, it will be difficult to attract the large and loyal audiences necessary to boost revenues," it said.

All of TV, Hollywood and the newsmedia supports Obama including Fox/saudia News partially owned by the Saudis. The only decent papers are the UK Telegraph (awesome!) and the UK Daily Mail.

It comes as no surprise that people who don't read newspapers are more likely to think the things printed in them are true.

I just saw where Detroit spends $13,000 per student(?) per year!! A class of 20 would be $260,000 per year!

Quite true, and I would also add ‘Education/Teachers schools and degrees”

Cheaper than jail, where many of them are eventually headed. But, if we can save just one child....

Surprise - 18 year olds leaving public school liberal indoctrination think the liberal press is dandy, and less so as they get older & wiser.

In other news, stoves get hot.

Agreed. You would think GOP Leadership would be on every news station yelling at the tops of their lungs. But no we have McConnell kissing A$$, praying the The Usurper will be a ‘born again moderate’????

The Republicans, for the most part, want to ride the wave of discontented voters back into office without rising to defend America and the Constitution. They don’t want to appear to be too radical ya’ know. Wink, wink. They are thinking that there are just too many moderate votes out there to consider.

Now when the Dems get blown out in November, all the big wig Republicans will run to the camera and say, “Well look what we did!! At that point they will try to play middle of the road and the real conservatives will have to put up with all the RINO’s. Makes me sick to think about it!

You are 100% Correcto Mundo IMHO.
That is why I Shall not vote for a RINO as the lesser of two evils. Better to have the enemy define themselves, than clutter the horizon with turncoat RINOs. McConnell, Boenher, Cornyn, Warner, Graham and McShame are good examples. (sorry about spelling)
