John Boehner, the Ohio Republican who is the House minority leader, said: The decision to build this mosque so close to the site of ground zero is deeply troubling, as is the presidents decision to endorse it.
The American people certainly dont support it, Mr. Boehner said.
Representative Peter King, a New York Republican, said that while the Muslim community has the right to build the mosque, doing so needlessly offends too many people.
President Obama is wrong, Mr. King said. It is insensitive and uncaring for the Muslim community to build a mosque in the shadow of ground zero. While the Muslim community has the right to build the mosque they are abusing that right by needlessly offending so many people who have suffered so much. The right and moral thing for President Obama to have done was to urge Muslim leaders to respect the families of those who died and move their mosque away from Ground Zero. Unfortunately the president caved into political correctness."
Newt Gingrich, the former House Speaker, also condemned the proposed mosque and the Presidents comments.
There is nothing surprising in the presidents continued pandering to radical Islam, he said. What he said last night is untrue and in accurate. The fact is this is not about religious liberty.
Mr. Gingrich said the proposed mosque would be a symbol of Muslim triumphalism and that building the mosque near the site of the Sept. 11 attacks would be like putting a Nazi sign next to the Holocaust Museum.
Its profoundly and terribly wrong, he said.

There is a far greater issue. The attempt to build a mosque at ground zero is merely one step to replace their Sharia Law with the Constitution. The mosques area breeding ground for this insurrection. The only way to stop it is by eliminating all mosques.
JournoLists wet their pants in orgiastic agreement with Republicans Criticize Obamas Endorsement of Mosque
First amendment freedom of religion applies to everyone. While I think the location and startup date of the mosque are in poor taste, I still believe that the first amendment applies to everyone, and not just a select few. This is a chance to show that the U.S. is better than those countries that would restrict people’s freedom of religion.
If Boehner wants to be Mr. Speaker, he’d better get the marbles out of his mouth.
“Deeply troublesome” doesn’t suffice.
If he’s lost for fighting words, call Sarah Palin, FGS.
It is insensitive and uncaring WOW SUCH STRONG WORDS.
Now Gingrich was ON TARGET......
I have a feeling that this mosque will somehow be eliminated.
It is called the Cordoba Initiative for a reason!!!!!
To me...the building of a Mosque at ground zero is the equivalent of screaming FIRE in a crowded theater....there is NO RIGHT.
“While the Muslim community has the right to build the mosque”
What proof is there that “Muslims” want this, the “Muslim community” supports it, or that the “Muslim community” is “to build” the “mosque?
At Obama’s dinner, they applauded after he said equal rights for all. I heard no applause after he talked about the mosque.
There is nothing “American Muslim” about it. It is about Saudis building their victory shrine for the Holy 19 Martyrs.
>>I still believe that the first amendment applies to everyone, and not just a select few.
Wow. You probably mean well, but you just took “quisling” to a new level! Do you mean the “select few” that includes everyone in America from fundamentalist Christians to Wiccans to Buddhists to Satanists to Atheists? The muslims are building a monument to their victory, not a religious center. Don’t believe it? Wait until its built and show up at the door with a case of Bibles to pass out. See how far your freedoms get you when the NYPD is called to arrest you.
Good point. It’s a wahhabist victory shrine, and dirty Omoslem is all wee-weed up in anticipation of the first prayer.
Even if the Islamofascists in this country have a legal right to build something, that does not mean that it is proper or fitting to do it. We all know that this Islamic Center is a monument to Islamic terrorism. It is Islam’s triumphal arch.
...notice the NY Times makes it look like it’s a Republican criticism...fact is, 70% of the American people hate the idea.
Who do you want to show that the U.S. is better than countries which restrict freedom of religion? Bin Laden and his boys?
Saudi Arabia is one such country which restricts freedom of religion. All religions except Islam are banned there. Will they be impressed at our freedom of religion? Are these the people to whom you want to demonstrate America’s freedom of religion as being better than them?
Islam is a religion of hate, including hate against women. In this Country we don’t let criminal hide behind their religion. In the 1840s we stopped the Mormons, burned their churches and killed their leaders, we even passed legislation against them........ THE EdmundsTucker Act
The act disincorporated both the LDS Church and the Perpetual Emigration Fund on the grounds that they fostered polygamy
And islam is 10x worse than anything the Mormons did.
Supporting a new mosque is supporting hate against women. Hell there should be some of that Hate Crime Legislation against all Mosques.
It’s been reported that they intend to open for business on September 11, 2011.
Just a coincidence, though.
The below link illustrates the only way our founders ever dealt with fanatic muslim “pirates”, the predecessors of today’s Jihadists. The kiss of the US steel blades, and the US iron and lead balls of Stephen Decatur and Reuben James at Tripoli are as close as any stinking 19th century fascist muslim, in reality, ever actually came to being a part of the founding of America.
