Same mentality as my aunt's father, who asked at his wife's wake if anyone knew of a woman he could replace her with. When some objected to his starting a search before she was in the ground, he replied:"Boys, she's just as dead tonight as she will ever be."

It is called callousness or in PC--insensitivity.
