At a fund-raising event for Democrats in Dallas, where Bush now lives, Obama said the former president's "disastrous" policies had driven the U.S. economy into the ground and turned budget surpluses into deficits.
Obama defended his repeated references to Bush's policies, saying they were necessary to remind Americans of the weak economy he inherited from Bush in January 2009.
"The policies that crashed the economy, that undercut the middle class, that mortgaged our future, do we really want to go back to that, or do we keep moving our country forward?" Obama said at another fund-raising event in Austin, referring to Bush's eight years as president.
So President Obama describes his predecessors policies as disastrous. Just for the fun of it, lets do compare the two records, shall we?
In the wake of a recession that began roughly seven weeks after President Bush took office, America experienced six years of uninterrupted economic growth and a record 52 straight months of job creation that produced more than 8 million new jobs. During the Bush presidency, the unemployment rate averaged 5.3 percent. We saw labor-productivity gains that averaged 2.5 percent annually a rate that exceeds the averages of the 1970s, 1980s, and 1990s. Real after-tax income per capita increased by more than 11 percent. And from 2000 to 2007, real GDP grew by more than 17 percent, a gain of nearly $2.1 trillion.
As for Obamas claim that Bush turned a budget surplus into a deficit: by January 2001, when Bush was inaugurated, the budget surpluses were already evaporating as the economy was skidding toward recession (it officially began in March 2001). Combined with the devastating economic effects of 9/11, when we lost around 1 million jobs over 90 days, the surplus went into deficit.

Crass vs Class....BHO meets donors, while GWB meets troops.
What a great picture.
First of all.....these so called "surpluses" were projections, requiring a status quo on revenue and spending remaining the same over long periods of time. Never happens in DC.
Secondly, and most importantly, the government does not generate money, it only confiscates it through taxation. Therefore.....any government surplus is an overtaxation of the citizens.
Recalling how I felt on the day of the Immaculation, this is quite a boost to morale!

I remember when we had a President who was proud of his country.
W knew, as anybody did following politics, that the worldy beasts had set up Zero from at least ‘02.
Presidents have to think way out, like in 50 yr terms.
W saw the left taking over as a ‘natural response to war’ (for the left and Paulites) and let it happen. It was going to happen, anyway.
It’s a credit to W that he knew America would make Zero a one-term freak presidency. He appealed to the patriotic nature in everybody, everyday as a matter of course.
Compare this to an Usurper who knew the jig was up about a year into his ‘presidency’. He appeals to the slugs of America, and is damned proud of it.
There was never a surplus !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
They seem genuinely glad to see him. Look at their eyes.
For me Bush was a great president.
By comparison to what we have now, he’s hall of fame material. LOL
Crass bs. Class.

...and even if it had been real, Newt's Contract for America should be credited for it.
He was! The liberal media conspired to make him look bad- in the same manner that they are now conspiring to help Obama look good.

George W Bush is my age, his father, Ambassador, head of the CIA, Vice Pres, Pres. GWB did for sure know what was to come, e.g. B,O.
But that is not an excuse, if your values are right, to not clearly speak out on the imminence and deep deep tragedy of Leftism. Especially if you have the bully pulpit for many years.
GWB is my age and we have some things in common. In the personal idiom I love GWB as an individual and would want him as a friend, But can never forgive him for not articulating what has come on, and fighting it with every breath of his body. One simply can not carry one's principles around in a political bag.
He knew what was going down and said nothing. Human dignity, mine, yours, our fellows, is the great privilege of living one's own decisions and trusting others to do the same. It was the great revelation of America.
When one is in a position to say so, so that others, decades and centuries on may come to realize it, one does not recant. There have been many through human history who did not retreat, say Socrates, Christ, Luther.
It's going to take some mighty heroics to bring America back, if it happens at all. God help us to find those people, and God help GWB for not being one. It is not like many of us even here on FR did not see it.

The Bush Tax RATE Cuts (For the Rich) increased Tax Revenue to the Federal Government by 35% (1.75 Trillion to 2.5 Trillion) from 2003 to 2008 while the “Rich” paid a larger portion of the overall Tax Revenue than ever before. People act like revenue went down, not up.
The information is available on the U.S. Treasury Web Site, yet not one Journalist can find it?
Keep the Sheeple ignorant and you have a clear path to control them. The proof of that statement is living in the White House.
