Well, I’m going to get torn up by Freepers for this, but I think lesbians in the military is a pretty good idea. Gay men, not so much. Lesbians, yes. I was in the Navy in the 1980s and lesbians were routinely better sailors than straight women. Not worried about their hair, not worried about their nails, not getting pregnant just before we pull out to sea, handy with tools... JMHO.

you probably will get torn up by some, but I think most understand that the mission is what matters, and you (who had first-hand experience) say a specific group was focused and efficient, well then bless ‘em for their service.

Not by me. It's your opinion. Based on what you've seen.

However, as has been pointed out with this young woman, she can't take hearing the word "fag" and even had a physical reaction to comments so she isn't military material. "Bad" words hurt her. *ahem*
