WEST POINT — Cadet Katie Miller said she couldn't listen to her comrades toss around the word "fag" anymore, and making up stories about fictional boyfriends was driving her crazy.

So Miller, a lesbian who ranks No. 9 in her class of future Army leaders, stepped out the closet last weekend and quit West Point.

"I thought I would have the strength to re-closet myself," said Miller, who was openly gay to her family and friends in high school. "I completely underestimated the personal toll it would have on me.

Or are you stating that your interpretation of God's Word trumps anyone here who is discussing the issue?
Just asking.

I see nothing wrong with disagreement. Sometimes it furthers a debate to truth or better fact finding. And peoples beliefs are also made up of their experiences.

That said, I believe that it is a sickness. There's a sickness in the soul and an illness in the mind. The only thing that keeps this young man from acting on the illness is the love of and for the Great Physician. Mental illness does not mean that someone is a ranting lunatic. They may only have abnormal urges. He is to be commended for fighting it. But it is still an illness. Btw, I have a gay brother. And it's a conditioned response.

She didn’t lie unless she was directly asked. That’s the point of DADT.

Anyway...good riddance and she should thank God the Taliban never found her.

Thanks. Lots of Christians forget they are walking moment by moment. I forget as well and previous posts through the years on this site prove it.
But, I press on.

"making up stories about fictional boyfriends”....this is a violation of the Cadet Honor Code, and usually grounds for dismissal.

Its called lying and has always been a honor violation that would get you canned.

To be homosexual is to sin, as the Bible clearly states.

I disagree. Jesus was tempted by Satan and resisted. Does that mean he was a sinner because he was tempted? You can be tempted to drink too much but refrain from all alcohol in response. You can be tempted to have sex before marriage but resist it and not be guilty. Being attracted to the same sex doesn't make you a sinner. Fantasizing or acting on it does.

Oh, no, I do understand that mental illness is not about being a 'raving lunatic'. I think we are closer to agreeing than disagreeing. Absolutely, my friend, and your brother, are in need of God's healing hand.

Knowing this young man, my approach to him has not been to tell him he is mentally ill. We talk about God. We talk about the Bible. I remained his friend and didnt banish him from my life. It would not cross my mind to suggest to him to see a psychiatrist.

We are 'all like filty rags'. That pretty much describes the sickness of all our souls don't you think?

Katherine A. Miller is leaving West Point to attend Yale University because of Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell, a discriminatory policy affecting LGBT people. “I can’t be closeted anymore. I need to be open with myself and open with others about who I am.”

Seems like by her own admission she is the type who is unable to keep secrets secret. As the recent McChrystal and Wikileaks fiascos showed, being able to keep secrets is an important attribute in a military officer and there are severe consequences if you don't. This whole "I can't live a secret life as a homosexual -- I need to tell everyone" is a damn good a reason for keeping homosexuals who profess that line of thought out of the service. It is not as good a justification for allowing them to serve openly as they seem to think -- quite the opposite. If they can't keep their sexual acts secret, how can we expect them to keep Pentagon secrets secret? Good riddance.

Never said such to my brother either.

I remained his friend and didnt banish him from my life. It would not cross my mind to suggest to him to see a psychiatrist.

My brother kicks it for a couple years and goes back then I don't see him for 15 years or so. He just walks away. I have never said much to him about it except for talking Scripture, a conversation that he instigated everytime. I have always accepted his friends. HE walks away. At our ages this could be the last time. It's his choice.

“How would she deal with the fog of war if she can’t handle the term fag?”

And as such, the system works. It rooted out a cadet unfit for command.

Your question is not genuine. It reveals your view.

Perhaps you can refute Scripture and site verses which counter the position?

Oh, jeez, I’m with you. Every stinkin’ TV show gets around to it eventually (and I don’t watch any network TV!). Today on the CNN webpage the main story was about a lesbian couple whining that the bridal magazines didn’t cater to them (well no sh$%, Sherlock), so they had to start their own. My tolerance level has gone from a sort of “live and let live” to “get the hell out of my face!!!”.

As I stated previously, temptation and sin are two different things.

Being tempted to engage in sex with an individual of the same gender is different than that of engaging in a sexual act, whether it be physically or mentally, is sin.

To be homosexual is to engage, whether it be physically or psychologically, is to sin.

God’s Word is clear in describing the condition of the heart as it relates to sin vs. temptation.

And? Just being predisposed to it does not mean you are in sin if you resist.

“Its called lying and has always been a honor violation that would get you canned.”

I used the word ‘usually’, because around 25% of found honor violators are now kept...they get placed in a different company, but stay.

Your are presupposing that there is a predisposition. We are all predisposed to sin. God’s Word states it, which is why we needed a Savior; because we couldn’t save ourselves.

Going back to my original argument, to say that you are a homosexual is to say that you are living in sin. A homosexual engages in the act of sexual copulation with a another person of his/her own gender (whether it be in the heart or body), just as a baseball players play baseball.

You don’t see people walking around identifying themselves as athletes, but in name only?

A person may be attracted to individuals of the same gender, but this attraction does not mean they are homosexual.
